Default Is it true ??

That imprza turbo's are the most expensive car to run and own ???

I have always been tempted but i heard horror stories of 15 mpg constant and 8000 miles from a set of tyres, and then there is the insurance of course ???

Thoughts -

28-30 mpg on classic is no problem if you drive steady. ('a' road use)

I'd have thought a Mclaren F1 would be one of the most expensive cars to own and run rather than an 'imprza'

Think you're getting confused with an Evo

oops spelling impreza i meant- but you knew that !!!

Well when i was looking for a car, i went and had a look at a 03 WRX STI PPP - and it was the salesman who was letting me know the sort of consumption i would get - I looked at the Evo - but the service intervals put me off - so i bottled it and looked at a focus RS, and Leon cupra R -

Still unsure, i will go on running my M3 - hence the reason why i joined to learn more about them - the PPP was very nice and fast, the ride was too hard though but very fast and good turn in the road -

I did a test one morning in my WR1.
Left the perants place Redcar, 230 miles to Swindon, it's about 5:00am and a full tank.
With a heavy right foor, Lcr100 and a Origin B2 fitted I was heading off with all the protection I need.............. first fill up was halfway down the M1 and then again at Highworth Shell Garage a couple of mile from Swindon.

Total fuel bill £78 miles
total mile's 230

Price per mile..............12.04 miles per gallon

If you want expensive get an EVO mate, the service intervals are every 4.5k!! It all depends on the mileage you do? My PPP'd Classic cost very little to run cus I don't do a lot of miles. I would hazard a guess that on average the difference between the M3 and a PPP'd new age would be very little. Go on get the scoob you know it makes sense!!!
dave

P.S. I now have an EVO V...............................But still have a soft spot for the old flat four!!!

Well the M3 does 23-25 mpg - servicing costs are £60 - £500 so no more than ur average VW / audi etc - i do 15k / annum and having ran the Volvo for 7k this year @ 18 mpg i really don't need it to be any less -

I get about 270 miles from 50L (bout 23mpg?) of fuel in my 03WRX. Most I ever got was 306... and that was driving about 65mph on motorways all the way.

I think BMW servicing would be more expensive than Subaru, although I've only had one service on my WRX so far, my old BMW had the most expensive servicing I've experienced - you are definitely paying for the engineers suits and ties to be dry cleaned.

As for MPG and tyres etc, I guess its similar to the M3. Pussyfoot around and you'll get plenty of wear out of a standard set, and 250-300 miles per tank.

Have some fun and that will drop quickly.

Andy M3,

It's worth looking at uprating the suspension with the Prodrive bits if you go for a WRX or an STi.

My WR1 has them and the ride is a lot better IMO than my MY02 WRX.

MY03 STi Type UK
Best MPG: 29
Avg MPG: 22-25

As with most cars it's down to how you drive. Personally I drive what I consider to be sensibly, i.e. mainly 2-5k revs with the occasional foray into the higher revs when conditions permit. If you drive like a maniac with revs consistently 4k+ you'll have fun but that fun will come at a price

As to tyres, I'm still running on the same Pirelli P-Zero Neros after 12k without any visible wear or performance drop. Though again this is down to your driving style, the more you thrash it the quicker you'll eat through the rubber.

The Scoob's are amazingly versatile, 40mph in 6th and they just potter along happily ... 140mph in 6th and they still potter along happily

At the end of the day: you know how you drive

30 mpg on a motorway run. Tyres replaced at 25k miles (did all 4, only fronts needed replacing). Brake pads changed at 20k.

Majority of miles have been m/way miles. THrow it around and costs rise a little bit

Ok guy's, your all giving the Scooby drivers a bad name.

How many mile you get out of your tyres.
How many miles do you get out of a tank.

This sounds like some of the sad muppets here in the office.

I want to here is how quick you can kill a set of tyre's and how soon do you need to re-fill the beast.

I'm not one for ***** footing around, unlike you lot......lol......

On a complete mission? About 18mpg... And with the extra weight up front of the 03, I could kill a set of tyres very quickly

It's all about how you drive, and the sort of mileage you do.

I think the record for consumption has been single figures on a track...

I have 03WRXppp.
MPG = 19mpg
I spent over £300 on petrol last month!!

The car has done 12k miles and I've been through 2 sets of front tyres and one set of front break pads. (just put on last week) - I've had the car since december!!

My geometry needs looking at though so my tyre wear isnt typical.

I couldnt afford to run this car if it wasnt a company vehicle.
