Which to buy... P1 or STI bugeye... or something else???
Hi guys,
ok, i've an MY98 UK turbo ATM. i do a lot of miles as part of work, so i'll be putting on 20k + a year. i have no problems about my current scoob, I just want to upgrade it something newer.
so i'm considering either a P1 or a STI bugeye, maybe even a standard WRX 01/2, but have driven the latest WRX and was a bit disapointed with the power that now seemed to be a bit more tame.
anyone got any idea of mpg for teh P1 v STI, or general opinions of one or the other??
cheers

motorway miles youll get up to 350 from a P1 tank (i've achieved this once). Averaging about 250 for mixed driving.
Get one with warranty remaining (most likely all extended by now)
I wouldn't even consider an sti/wrx bug eye instead.

If you are going to get a P1 be very careful!! A lot are coming on to the market now around £15k with 50-60k miles. And that means some big bills ahead. But for the ultimate Subaru (22b accepted!!!) then you go for it mate.

A P1 will rattle like your MY98 and generally have the feel of a powerfull baked bean can whereas the bug or blob will feel nice and solid
The choice is easy

Have had both at my disposal and done some serious miles in them. Lets move with the times Out the box the P1 is a better car, but pick up a Sti with PPP, spend a couple of hundred quid on a few bits ARB, etc and away you go.
As said above a lot of P1’s are getting on and unless you get a good one you could face some serious bills. Thing is, find a good one and you can have the Sti for the same money and most will have the extras already on. Don't forget a P1 on standard brakes is no good....no good at all. And if you think they are; best save some money and go buy a WRX

I now have an Sti with Prodrive springs, 18” alloys, ALK, ARB, solid drop links, Power station geometry set up and have been on track and fast road with one of the fastest and best driven P1’s around; and I don’t recall it getting past me….because it never could. But you don’t need to spend a fortune on the wheels and the springs. Take just the ALK, ARB, solid drop links and the car is transformed. Handles like it should of done out of the box and if it is a PPP model, then your P1 is staying behind and will soon be in trouble with it has no brakes left. Don’t forget or overlook you need nearly 2 grand to make the P1 have the decent brakes it needs….if you want to play really hard that is. The standard brakes are for girls; that simple. I am not here to knock the P1, drove one for a long long time, but lets not be too romantic about a quality car. It was, and is good, but it was not without its weaknesses either. Horses for course and depends what way you want to spend your money, but lets move on a little; the car design/shape first came out in +/- 92….

Cant believe so many thumbs up for the P1 Its a great car and all, but for a fair bit less, you can get an STi5 type R with a far better spec including the electronic diff.
The P1 and STi ECu is the same, so id be remapping both either way.
No contest for me, STi is the way forward. The bugeye is more refined, but the classic is a great feeling car, and tough to beat IHMO.

And a second thumbs up for the P1, I've been down the stitypeR route.

Sorry but I need the car everyday and it will be used to demo satnav to older clients so ride comfort is key
I guess I am looking for max comfort without screwing handling, turn in etc over PPP with springs and 18"s
what was the results of each individual additional mod?
any additional power mods to the PPP which dealers would turn a blind eye to?
