Estimate on how long these jobs would take at a garage?
I've just bought some new bits for my car and would like to know how long roughly, it would take a specialist subaru garage to fit them? so if you have any idea please let me know, and if its that far out from what I've been quoted then I will let you know, many thanks
1, new brake discs and pads front and back & braided brake lines.
2, a new knocklink and sensor.
3, a secondhand autometre boost gauge in a little pod that goes in the corner of the dash.
thanks again
Taffy
ps if anyonne can reccommend someone in the surrey/hants/berks area who is cheap & knows what he's doing then please let me know.

right then 64 views and no comments, the garage I asked said
2.5 hours to change the brakes
1.5 hours for the knocklink & sensor
and 1 hour for the boost gauge (allready in a pod, just needs sticking on the dash)
I know they are there to make money, I just want to make sure I'm not being taken for a ride, as I've got a bit of a drive just to get there.
what do you reckon?
cheers

It all depends on their hourly rate....
I would be suprised if they'd actually spend any longer than 1.5 hrs on both front and rear brakes including bleeding. (I personally changed my front calipers, discs & pads in about 3/4 hr once the wheels were off)
Can't comment on a knocklink as never fitted one but an hour for the boost gauge is reasonable (ish).
Obviously if someone charges £30 an hour quoting 3 hrs labour it's comparable to a 1 hour labour quote at £90 an hour.
Check the labour rate !
I've always been happy with work done by Colin at www.ThamesValleyMotorsport.co.uk in Reading.

Give Scoobyclinic a call.
I had a set of Defi BF's fitted there yesterday and they did an amazing job.
They go the extra mile as well to do the job properly.
At £20 per hour you won't find cheaper.

agreed the prics at scobyclinic are excellent.
1.5 hours for the brakes is a bit tight- I would be inclined to say 2 to 2.5 hours, bearing in mind bleeding is a two man job.
I would guess maybe 1.5 hours for both knocklink and boost gauge.
having said that if their charge rate is about £30 an hour I wouldn't be unhappy to be charged £150 for everything you're having done to be honest.
Many garages only charge by the complete hour, so bear this in mind- if it takes 1 hour 20 mins you'll be charfed for 2 hours etc.
