Wagon or saloon. Uk or import ( classic )
Sorry if this question has been asked before just wanted some opinions for my circumstances....!! I am 28 with 7yrs NCB but the car will be on the drive/street.
I like the look of both styles, is the handling as good on the wagon also which one is easier to re-sell...? i have got quotes for insurance on UK (approx £800 ) or import (£1200 ) are the extra running cost worthwhile for an import ? ( i am movin up from a 95bhp saxo so anythin over 200 bhp will be scary...!!! )

Are you looking to mod it up??
If so, IMO go for the import. More power to start with than the UK, gives you a better starting base.
If you're not bothered about modding, then the UK will be your better bet. Cheaper insurance, and dealer servicing, instead of only Subaru specialists for the imports.
Going to annoy the wagon owners here, but I'd always plumb for a saloon. Better looking IMO. Wagon's are more practical however. Depends what you want it for. Put it this way, I could never go and buy our Xmas tree in my saloon

no family so really only looks im concerned about, quite like the lines of the wagon IMO but un-decided on style. Not lookin at modin the car (how many people have said that tho...!!!)

I used to prefer saloon, now like wagon so have one. If you are buying an early car (pre-97) and it is a wagon then go for the UK as they have the TD05 turbo in them I believe.
With Jap cars you have to worry about using octane-booster unless you get a VOS chip or scoobyecu (which is probably a good idea to get even if a UK car (for performance)).
Jap cars are much lower milage though and generally in better nick. I bought a jap wagon (1994 model) and it's got only 50k miles on it and looks like its in great condition. Also better choice of colours and a few optional extras as standard.

I'm in the Midlands but bought private & sold private.
It's a win - win situation. Private cars are cheaper to buy and you get more selling private. Just no warranty..... which some people might not like, especially on a Scoob.
Mine's an import which made it even cheaper and offsets the insurance premium hike. Plus it's 250PS where the UK model is 218PS, quite a difference
Main dealer wont touch it, but plenty of specialist around who probably know as much if not more than the dealer anyway - and seem to be cheaper so no worries there.
My only concern is fuel but should be getting it remapped soon to sort that.

Totally agree with what your saying, i have just done on-line quotes for insurance so want to call just to check some of the policy wording on the imports...!! I dont mind buying private its just the hastle factor of selling my french hunk of s**t...!

I got my my98 reddish blue uk wagon last november after looking at loads,its all standard apart from a centre decat and scooby sport rearbox.
I didnt want to be a target for all the chavs that want to race at every set of lights,plus i can really shift some gear about with the seat down.
The only drawback if there is one is that you feel a bit of a poor relative at meets because it doesn't have the same street presence of a saloon,but then again you can still hoon around and suprise people, where as with the saloon that kind of behavior/performance is expected.
Just a thought though i dont think i would have got it if it was just called an estate.

I have had it re-mapped, and its now giving 275bhp and 277lb/ft.
Not bad for an estate
Have you contacted scoobyclinic.
They may be able to point you in the right direction for a scoob

I've an MY94 wagon (uk) and I love it, I was 23 when I got it and don't have a family, just thought that saloons were to common.... I couldn't insure an import so went for a U.k that's now putting out 246bhp...

There's a nice silver WRX wagon for sale in a garage in Stone next to Langleys pub. It's a P reg, and I think it was up for sale at £6k which I thought was a good price.
I paid £7500 for my UK V reg about a year ago and that had done 82k. The car had been well looked after and was straight, a lot better than some of the c**p I looked at from Autotrader.

2 weeks earlier I sold my 100000 km MY95 import 4 door for £5500 and the mods for £1300
