General Opinions on the Bugeye.
Planning to get a MY02 bugeye WRX.
As title really, i just want to see what everyones general opinion is on them, those that drive them and those that dont.
This can cover all criterias, looks, drivability, power etc etc.
Cheers.
Marc.

Hi mgg,
I've owned my MY02 Bugeye for about 18 months now, approx 15k (from new) miles and have had no problems with it at all
When I bought mine I got it with the following mods, cos like a few others on here I think the standard version is ugly as hell!!
Colour coded side sills
Prodrive UK300 Rear Wing
Prodrive front lower lip spoiler
Prodrive PFF7 Bright Flitter alloys
Prodrive Lowering Kit
Morettes
WR Sport Back box
Am now at the point where I'm either going to sell it and get an Sti or go for the PPP - is it me or am I starting to sound like a Prodrive Sponsor?
The main problem being that you get used to the power and then start modding
Cheers
Andy

Had my bug for just 5 weeks now, loving it! essential mods in first few weeks:
Colour coded skirts, clear repeaters and side markers, Eibachs and geom setting, pink front & rear badges, STi filter and new WR style wheels on order. Personally I was planning the Morette conversion before I got it, got used to it since, think the bug eyes lights don't stand out so much on a silver car. Does feel like it could use a little more pep, but like Andy says, you get used to anything in time.

I like the look of the bu(g)eye even before it is styled(except for the non-colour coded side skirts), and because of the general opinion that it is an ugly s.o.b. they can be gotten for very reasonable price which is prob the best thing about them! Only driven on a test drive after owning UK classic hard to compare the two but still superb!

Looks - I think it's quite funny some people that really hate the bugeye just cos of the looks yet like the new age current model, very little differences apart from the front design/lights. TBH I don't like the standard bugeye lights but even the darker/clearer Sti lights make a massive difference to the looks.

as standard the bugeye is a very average car IMHO
but with some sensible mods (lights, eibachs, tek3) it transforms into an excellent car that easily competes with the classic and blobeye models.

Mine is currently for sale:

Great cars, especially once they have loosened up and with some simple tweaks like suspension / headlights etc.
Only reason mine is going is that I'm getting a company diesel and saving for a mortgage

Mine already has that done plus mudflaps and a 2.2 turn steering rack which makes a huge difference. They still go for 15k at dealers so mine is a bargain

Had my Wagon for around 5 months now - got a few minor mods to do but I really think it looks great - especially in white. Would love to change the headlights but as they are HiD I'm going to keep them.
Hope the links work...

Had mine for 18 months and had really enjoyed owning it (even if my bank manager has not). Std performance soon leaves you wanting more, so mods are hard to resist, so is wanting that scooby burble which the std exhaust is so good at hiding.
Worst thing is the amount of petrol I get through, as it is hard not to got out for a 100mph trip to the shops every time the evening are dry and sunny.

Second JDM scooby the new one being a bug eye. It has the HID lights which are a big improvement over the standard fitted to most uk's. IMO It is a much more refined car than the classic and the Sti performance and handling is more than adequate in standard form for road use. Turbo delivery is a lot smoother but still gives me the same smile the classic wrx did. With a wider wheel base and being a heavier car it is more car to drive which I like. It's clearly a new car and not a facelift classic. I love mine and the addition of 19's wheels big spoiler and tints (standard on JDM's) help with the looks.
Above all they represent the best VFM Impreza you could ever ask for, but get an STi if you can.

I quite like the bug now, when they came out I hated them, the shock I suppose. Now I think the STi's with the full prodrive kit look fantastic and being produced for only a couple of years, are quite rare and individual compared to the blobs and clasics.
(Still bought a blob though )
Mark, yours looks great.

I went from MY99 to new MY52 - its been great - no way as harsh as the classic - turbo a lot smoother, cornering is a bit of a wallow though - no problems at all 23K miles - oil changed every 5k - swapped to FS at 10K.
Having said all that ---
got:
morrettes at 2 weeks
WR BB at 3 weeks
decat pipe at 8 weeks
Hella Driving lights 16 weeks - these are the mutts nuts !
STi8 Wheels at 40 weeks
OEM clear indicators at 60 weeks
Slippery slope.
Would I have another scoob
Yes
Would I have an STI 8 - no
Type25 !

Bought mine Nov 2002, now on 64,000 miles, great to drive, feels more solid than the classic, I even like the look of it. Had full decat, Eibach's, Scooby Sport BB etc. It's only now started to feel run in. Looks like I'd better keep it for the next few years and go for the 150k, not worth selling it, what else can you get for the money that comes close?

HAD an my02 for a little over 18 months now. It is absolutely standard and is so much better than the my98 I had before. Much more civilised, you don't feel like your kidneys are trying to escape if the road surface is less than perfect. Is it as quick? No idea. Frankly who cares. Despite all the comment on here about bugeyes being "slow", the fact remains that they are still far quicker than just about anything else you could have bought for similar money.

Junk the headlights, Fit a WRS backbox to get a nice noise and have a de-cat pipe to the turbo fitted, an ECU re-map and Bob's your mothers 265 BHP.
Oh, and don't buy a blue one.
