Nissan 200SX V's Scooby Classic
A mate of mine has just bought a Nissan 200SX in standard form. I have a Classic in pretty much standard form (for now).
Just wondering, is the Scooby gonna kick butt or should it be fairly close?? Also, which car is most 'modable'??

both cars are very different but also very similar (if that makes sense!) my mate has hundy's, the s13 is a fair bit down on the power but the s14 is a lot closer to the scoob, 2.0 turbo with 200bhp.
scoob is quicker off the mark thanks to better traction but when they are moving, there aint much between them, most of it comes down to the driver

I had an S13, standard at first and then modded to 210bhp. Slow as standard but with 210 it wasn't bad. No comparison to my scoob tho - but then again I bought it with 280bhp so not a fair fight.
The 200s are easily tunable though, zorst/filter and dawes gives 40-50 bhp, about the same as a scoob I suppose? That applies to S13 or S14, the S13 starts life with 169bhp and the S14 with 200bhp. About 500 quid gets you 210bhp on an S13 or 240bhp on an S14.
Oh btw the last S13 was M-reg, with pop-up lights. S14 after that and then S14a the later ones with facelift front-end.

After selling the P1 I bought a S14 200sx and lightly tuned it to 250ish BHP. On the motorway The 200 was as fast as the scoobs and maybe a little faster once you got over the speed limits. But when driving across Exmoor with the SW crew I struggled to keep up only catching up on the long straights. Once on the twisty stuff they left me for dead.

I drove my totally standard classic Impreza MY00 across Europe to the Nurburgring in convey with my mate in his 200SX. Not much to choose between them on the French motorways - Scooby slightly quicker from 70 to 130 - which is pretty much what we were cruising at. I saw 143 on the speedo (one handed as I was camcording the speedo at the time) - the SX was there or there abouts. I guzzled a fair bit more super unleaded than him tho. But when we got to the Ring, the story couldn't have been more different... what you really what on 15 miles of twisting unfamiliar roads is a scooby and not an SX - I left him for dead! The scoob is soooo confidence inspiring that after a couple of sighting laps I was in nicely controlled 4 wheel drifts all over the place - matey was blasting down the straights but tiptoing round the corners - worried is rear tyres were gonna let go at any minute. By the way, this weekend has got to have been one of the best in my life - GO NOW before they stop letting you on (which can't be long - there's an average of 1 death a week on the track). Oh, forgot to mention, matey number 2 was in a 911 (993) - he disappeared into the sunset on the motorway but couldn't gey away from good old scooby on the track!

I had a race with one when my car was standard (210-215 Bhp), down a pretty straight dual carriageway, one set of lights.
In a nutshell - scoob much quicker from standing start (as expected with 4wd), after 60 he slowly crept past me and I was caning it - after 100 he was pulling away a fair bit.
After about 3 miles of this we pulled up next to eachother at a set of lights and I asked what the **** sort of power he hed - 280 Bhp apparently - dawes device, remap etc.
No twisties, so can't comment there - but a well driven rear wheel drive car may give a scooby trouble in the dry.
Anyway - they can be easily tuned, as can our cars.
I'd like to se it again though now

Having had both (sort of) general feeling on SXOC board, was that the Scooby was faster off the line, upto 60mph but then as it was shaped like a brick, would eventually be reeled in and overtaken.
Coming down the M1 I did push and leave a Bug Eye, although this was at just above the speed limit !! I had a standard S14a.
It does not suffer as heavily from transmission losses, so more of what you have tends to get to the road. Iw as ok in corners though, but frightening in the wet - although this could have been me.

The 200sx was noted as being one of the best handling rear wheel drive cars you could get, you should easily keep up with a scoob on the twisties in one (unless wet) so dont underestimate them!
John Felstead could be the man to talk to, hes had both scoobs and a 200sx

Superb. Cheers for all the replies folks, sounds like there aint really that much between them over all, shame my mate is a nut job & does not seem to have any fear!!
I think we'll have to both get out 'on the private airfield' to see how they match up. Hopefully his cash wont be flowing too freely for the moment as I cant afford an ecu map for now!!

it takes a very confident driver to get the best out of the 200. Understeer is more a problem than you might think, but once you learn to drive around that then it really is a very quick car, even when standard. Traction and cornering are down on what you expect from a RWD compared to a 4WD,but they are so well balanced that if the driver is good enough then it might not be a one sided as you think.
Godd cars though. I paid 5k for mine and havent looked back.
