STi8 Spec C isnt a bug eye... Regardless, were talking performance I think, and things have changed massively since the classic (<MY00) days. Twin scroll turbos, DCCD, suretrac etc etc...

So which is the ultimate scooby? That was the question, performance wasn't mentioned, I assume its everything not just outright performance.

spec c? lol!
it's stripped out because its overweight in the first place, and still ends up 100kg heavier than the 22B.
twin scroll turbos and variable duration heads are minor things which can be sorted easily when you spend a little money.
lets face it, the spec c will get lost in the ether amongst all the other special editions, the wr1, the s202, the type 25, the type 20. They are all just bug/blob eyes which are always going to lack that appeal despite their being a great package. The 22b is always going to stand out on its own as being the best looking car, and its not as if it didn't get the best toys at the time too.
In my opinion, start with the best base and mod from there. I will let you know what happens to its true performance when scoobysport get to play with the handling!

The 22b is the only Impreza I would ever own - a true special edition, not just a different colour with a few toys.
Adam M - I have been on scoobynet for over 3 years and I am yet to hear of your car working? Is this normal? It would do my head in to have a car and never drive it for whatever reason.

Hmmm well it depends on how you look at it really....
Ultimate..... hmmmm
Probably the latest version of the impreza as it keeps getting better
Special..... definately the 22B, though it does lack behind in everything since its now 6 years old and really just a V4 STi type R (that should get some handbags thown in this direction )

Surely a car which in many cases requires major engine work after 60K (or whatever the life expectancy of a P1 engine is these days) isn't worthy of the name ultimate, therefore 22B it is.

what utter crap!
The 22B engine is no less reliable than any other subaru engine so saying it has a life expectancy of 60k is nonsense. All of them are still prone to random failure, and we still do not know why.
davyboy, it was two years not three, and that was by my own choice whilst I had some serious mods done.
I had the option to put in an uprated standard engine within a few weeks, but thinking the mods wouldn't take two years I kept passing on it. Foolish me! Still it has been working now for about 6 months despite not being in my possession for most of that whilst I have other stuff done.

P1's blow after 40 or 60K
What a pile of crap is being circulated by people like Daz WRX above and on the other thread attached.
P1 engines are Sti V engines with identical STi Ecus, except for a slightly more sensitive knock feature which retards the timing (to some extent) if poor fuel is sensed. As a result they are no more chocolate (or less powerful) than the equivalent JDM Sti V engine. If you ran both on 100 -102 octane as the engines were designed for, output and knock history would be identical allowing for individual cars tolerances.
The reason P1 or JDM engines sometimes go bang is from running less than 98-100 ron fuel, whether decatted or not, and the crap MY99+ MAF's.The knock adjustment feature only works to some extent for the fuel, hence you should never run a P1 on less than SUL and preferably with octane booster as well IMO even before it is decatted or has any change to the induction side. Needless to say, the same goes for any JDM Sti of that era, only more so as it hasn't even got the additional knock sensitivity of the P1.
If decatted etc (P1 or JDM) my recommendation is to get a remap.
Shame that Ecutek reprogramming software wasn't available when the P1 was brought out as I'm sure that they would have been remapped properly rather than just having the a knock adjustment facility put on, as per the current PPP's.

yep, have driven a type 25 as had darren (dc911) who used to own a 22B has a type 25, and would stil have the 22B if it had had 4 doors.
what's your next point?

unfair comparison, you want to be comparing the 22B with a STi6 Type R Ltd (jap spec p1 but much better). i chose the Type R and bought one, very close though the roof vent swung it for me

A 911 GT3/2, 996tt etc may be a lot faster everywhere than an early 70s 2.7RS, but to most in "the know" the 2.7RS is The Ultimate.
Just because something is more modern, has more toys and is faster, doesn't make it the ultimate. All it does is pander to people who know no better.
