Help Needed - Buying a Wagon
I'm in the process of buying (well part ex-ing) my Forester for a MY99 Wagon.
It's come to light (through the honesty of the seller dij) that unknown to him the car may have been in an accident prior to his ownership.
He discovered that one of the rear wheels was rubbing and took it to have them aligned. The garage discovered that the rear ARB was bent and that the shocks were misaligned/damaged in some way and they have suggested it has taken a serious knock at some point. They also pointed out that the body panels have had an over spray.
Being a mechanical muppet I wondered whether there was anyone in the London/Healthrow area who would mind giving the car a once over. I could get the AA/RAC to do it but I would rather have someone who knows what they are doing with Subaru's.
Any volunteers?

Gav, with all due respect to all on here and there are many many knowledgable people on Scoobynet, and as a fellow wagon owner, your' best bet is to use AA / RAC .
They are experts and I have been saved a few times from parting with my very hard earned cash by the AA.
What does it cost.........£100 ?
Hope it all checks out, just choose wisely as it is a buyers market and plenty out there.

If it has been repaired (to an acceptable standard) will this effect future re-sale value. I have a tendancy to change cars every 6-12 months and don't want to risk something I can sell again.

Unless the car is otherwise immaculate & very good value I'd walk away from it.
Yes it will affect the resale value - if someone spots it.
You do not know what other damage has been done - espcially to rear diff, bearings etc etc.
There are loads on the market. I just got one from "bespoke cars" - the have another in stock for about 9995 red 99 i believe

OK price wise I am looking at £7,500! Plus I should point out that I am taking this in part-ex for my Forester with £1,000 in my favour.
It is a Euro import with 40,000 miles on the clock, quick shift, lip spoiler. Looks very clean.

I have also seen the car you mention (not to buy - just in passing) and acknowledge why you haven't walked away already. I'm sure dij will want to know the full extent of the damage and the costs involved to get it to A1, so why don't you suggest you go halves on an inspection with a reputable Subaru specialist? The results can be negotiated if you still feel this is the car for you.
