Ive just had a new clutch fitted to my93 wrx, and a day or so after getting it back the check engine light come on and the car would cut out at 4000rpm, runs fine apart from that....I disconnected the battery for an hour to reset the ECU and the check light had gone of and the car ran fine for a few hours then the light came back on and its now cutting out again at 4000rpm,

any ideas

Thanks Sean

Check the speedo cable has not been dis-connected from the little alluminuim block (next to the turbo- so don't check after running the car, they get a bit warm them turbos!)

It may well be slightly loose. Happened to my car and a friends after clutch work.

In that case...befroe you do...do this.

Make sure you dont remove from the gear-box!
Thats a nightmare to fit back on. If the rubber bung has been removed from the gear box then you need to jack the car up.
If it is just the block, its a pain to guide, but its easy enough...then just plug in until it clicks into place....You will find it easy enough.
Then turn the car on...Drive for around 10 minutes and bobs your uncle the lights out and your speedo is back to norm!

(in case you done know the cable comes from the bulk-head and heads to the gear-box via next to the blower)

Result!

The check engine system puts it in protection mode as it scares the e.c.u and makes it think that there is a problem with the gearbox. Clever this japanese biscuit tins are'nt they!

Thumbs up

RonH,

Thanks for all the advice it was all plugged in still but I removed the cable (not the rubber bung) and pushed it back in and hey presto its all working again....I would never have thought something like that would stop the car working properly....thanks again for the advice....
