Default Hello everbody - Type RA

Hi everyone

My first post, just wanted to say hello. Have recently begun impreza ownership for the first time pretty much by default having avoided them for the past few years. However, I am more than satisfied! I've previously owned a 300ZX and two Celica GT4s (ST185 and ST205) and am now the proud owner of a 1995 sti Type RA. I have driven a few imprezas in the past but this seems to go like nothing else on earth - and it sounds beautiful too. My problem is that I know little about the RA. It looks quite different from a WRX too in that it has no sideskirts and in fact looks really weedy (which I kinda like!). It's got the extra injector, ic water spray etc. Anyone able to fill me in with more info about it?

This site looks really good and I look forward to having a good old explore!

Cheers

Hi m8,

Cant answer your question but...

How does the RA rate against your old ST205 ...about to make the same transition (or maybe to a Type R )

Thumbs up

Mate, it absolutely knocks its dick into dirt. No contest. The ST205 was running about 260bhp but with about 1450kg to haul around. The RA has 280 odd and 200kg less...Having the ultra-short ratio gearbox compared to a stock STI means pretty crazy accelaration in the RA. Putting your foot down in 4th at about 50mph takes your breath away. I've drove an Evo IV recently and even that is not in the same league as the RA. The chassis is far more lively however - the GT4 was an awesome performer in this department and pretty impossible to unstick in any conditions.

Go for it mate - you won't regret it!

where should i start
the sti type ra and 555 in my opinion are the ebst ever subaru imprezas
seam welded chassis
lightweight glass
ic spray
5th injector
exclusive ecu
dccd
the best suspension on an impreza
theres loads more i'll add later
ultra close group n gearboz with longer final drive
fully lightweight alloy boot and bonnet
lightweight interior
carbon strut brace
pure rally pedigree
lack of electrics
lack of abs
its the drivers soob and i've just blown the engine on mine
out accelerates most things
sheer acceleration through the gears
the roof vent -cant believ i nearly forgot that

Hey, good to hear that I've made the right choice! Mine has all the goodies you mention but without the roof vent. Am I right in thinking that only the WRX (non-STi) RA has the roof vent? I'm guessing that this was the version that most people stripped for rallying and hence it didn't have the STi pistons etc as they would have been replaced? Mine has everything else you mention including the fifth injector, ic water spray, non-electric everything...

I guess that there might have been some variation in specs?

welcome aboard i have the exact same car although i do have the roof flap if you find the chassis number it should give you a better idea exactly what model you have as they're not that easy to identify around that year, hopefully you have it in the right colour also

mine was identified as a MY95 WRX Type RA STi (MY94 was STi1 & MY96 was STI2) from here

on the centre pillar near the driver door catch there should be this:

and your chassis id should be something like this:

Sorry if I'm being thick here but the plate you show finishes 7D which is a Type RA not an sti isn't it? Sti would end DD yes? Whether Sti Type R or Sti Type RA.

There were two years C version was produced.

from sep 94- aug 95 GC8C47D was a WRX RA and WRX RA STI as the STI was a modified WRX. It had 275ps about 270bhp on 100RON fuel.

look at section 2.1.1 :
