Wink Subaru Dealerships - Impressions any better or worse than other Marques

Just coming to the end of a six year affair with Scoobs and was wondering about overall impressions and experiences with Dealers. I personally found the Service side more than adequate (SGT have been very good to be fair) and could not really complain about how they have handled both cars over the period. The Sales side however (and this is general and not SGT specific)i have not been impressed with over the last 3 years. Current experiences

a). Bought a UK300 with PPP on the notion and information that the STI would be way out of my price range when it was released later that year..(certain garage in west berkshire). Hmm low and behold the STI comes out and is about the same..would have waited had i known not sure if this was the dealer speculating or IM just screwing us UK300 owners around..

b). Prior to the UK300 departing, was hawking around a number of dealers to see if they would give me a reasonable trade in against an STI. Wanted enough to cover the balloon payment on the lease (10.6K) and a reasonable amount towards the deposit, so about 12-13K. Although i spoke to two dealerships on a number of occasions, who promised to get back to me with figures, none of them ever did. I actually revisited one dealer and salesperson twice in order to jockey it along. It would have been useful to know either way, even if they believed i was in lala land looking for that kind of trade off.. (nothing like keeping loyal customers)..

Whats the general experience and impression of other scoob users especially long serving ones..i was just wondering whether with the removal of the import limitations a few years back .whether the overall attitude changed between the owners and the dealerships..When i first got mine in 98, they were not to common

Cheers

Jim

I'd have thought that's a very reasonable price for your car. A dealer wouldn't have had much trouble shifting that I'd have thought

Their loss not yours

Paul, i was and yep it is there loss as i am not swayed to buy another new scoob from a UK dealership.. Did check out Mr Litchfields wares sometime ago, and to be honest i do like the look of a JDM STI (looks an alround better package, and as for residuals, there a joke on most scoobs nowadays, so not to concerned). Also toying with the idea of moving to the dark side or getting a Skyline ..decisions decisions The 350Z has gone south due to the company car scheme getting pulled

I will wait until i get back of my hols in September, relying on the wifes taxi service until then though..

Will be picking the 300 up from SGT this afternoon, its having its annual preen and its first MOT, but cannot stop on the way back for a beer, got a conf call at 5..

Let me know if you are up for a beer the weekend..could get an impromptu meet of local scoobs/golfs whatever

Cheers

Jim

I have used two dealers in the South Yorkshire / North Derbyshire area for my last 3 Subaru purchases. One was average, the other excellent. Not prepared to disclose for fear of "advertising" but my favourite is south of the Yorkshire border

hi jim
i have purchased from two seperate dealers and found the main problem is a lack of information from IM
IM seem to feel the need to shift what they have before releasing details of new models to their dealership network
my 03 sti was purchased from SGT on a hand writen invoice as their system was not up to speed
SGT are a good family firm which i have used for four vehicles and feel they do try their best
only my opinion

Well my impression of the service department of one dealer in the south east is unprintable They have had my car 6 weeks for a blown engine under warranty. Not once have they called me on an unsolicited basis to tell me what is happening. And usually they don;t even return my calls.

My wife was in the dealer last week trying to get an answer, and as she walked out someone who was thinking about buying an Impreza approached her and asked what she was complaining about. She told them, they said not buying a car here and walked out!

Some dealers are going downhill ... part of the reason why I sold my scoob

Perhaps they don't know a good thing and close it down and keep the not good one open ... or is that just a local thing

Dave.

i bought mine about 6 months ago and i must say the dealer seemed like he couldn't give a damn if i bought one or not. in fact if i may be so bold he was a complete tosser... that was in croydon they shut down today in fact, can't say i'm suprised.the dealers who work for subaru know that these cars sell themselves so don't they have to put on the big act.

My local dealers were complete @rseholes to me and charged a ludicrous amount of money for a job that had been done by their apprentice going by the condition I got it back in. Turned out their fault diagnosis had been totally wrong, and mine had been right as I the problem reoccured.
Took it to a specialist (non dealership) who did twice the job for half the money
Would never go near my "local" dealership again.
