Unhappy Touch up paints...

I have a WR Blue 03 WRX. I have had it from new, and a couple of months ago (feb, I think) bought a genuine touch up pencil. The dealer even came out to check the colour on the slam panel. Yesterday was the first time I broke the cellofane seal on the pencil to do up two tiny(but noticeable) chips. On leaving it to dry, I thought at the time, "hope that dries the right colour!" but 24hrs later, it still the wrong colour!
Does anybody have any suggestions for me? I will take it back to the dealer for their opinion, but that wont be untill at least the weekend. I am doing nightshifts this week, so am hoping someone willl be about to help before I go to work later on today.
Thanks, Daz.

Did you shake it well? Mine seem to be an excellent match.
Go back and see the Dealer............... hope you get it sorted.

It was warm when i did it, but i probably could have shook the pen longer. i will first try to get the colour off the car, then i will have another go. it is not warm enough today, but i might do it at work where i can park it near the boiler. it definately WILL be warm enough there!
Thanks to all that have replied so far.

I've never been able to get a 'touch-up' to match my sonic blue (74f) - genuine Subaru or Halfords................

You will struggle to match any colour of metallic or mica paint with a touch up pencil. The mica or metallic particles will literally have a mind of their own in liquid form and will not match. The only way is a complete respray where all the partcles settle in a uniform manner. Believe me, I have tried hours upon hours to cover stone chips on my cars that I have owned. Once the paint is broken by a chip you will NEVER get a perfect disguise. Respray is the only answer due to the deflection of light and the uneveness of a spot touch up.

ive touched mine up after shaking the pen big time but it seemed to light and looked daft but if you sit the pen in boiling water for 2 mins and shake then apply then it gave a perfect colour match it was sonic blue BTW
also
use an artist brush about 0.6mm head its perfect without applying to much paint to the repair

regards

Jud

Thumbs up

we can mix you up a pot of any colour you like, we usually leave a pot in the car for customers after any paintwork is carried out,
it will be no problem to mix you some up, it will come in a little bottle complette with brush.

sti pink anyone????

is it colour code 02C [WR Blue]

Yes Pete, it is. I checked it this morning.
I will also try the boiling water method, as up to now it looks a mess, but I am not going to get a respray on a door for two stone chips though!

I never use a touch up pencil the brush is to big and the paint to thick, buy a very small brush Humbro number 1 and a can of spray (then spray in the lid of the can) don't forget to shake the can.

many thanks to 'nickthehead'
Nick has mixed up some 74f (sonic blue) for me - and it matches!! (unlike to official touch-up pen). All those stone chips will soon be gone...........
