Default Have you ever noticed that...

Reflections after a recent track day.

Have you ever noticed that ... the performance of the "enthusiasts" cars is usually inversely proportional to the use of that performance by its driver...?

I mean...(generalisations to follow):

205s
VTRs
106s
old Turbos
GTIs
etc

...get completely pushed hard most of the time at track days (and on the roads).

recent Turbos
STIs
CooperSs
Elises
Type-Rs
various other modern Hot Hatches
etc

...are pushed hard occasionally, by some owners, at some track days (and occasionally on the roads).

GT3s
360s
355s
Lambos
assorted 911s
etc

...are hardly ever pushed, by very few owners, at the occasional track day (and seldom on the roads).

I understand the arguments on maturity, age groups, $$$, etc, but then sadly most ultimate performance tools never get used.
As usual perhaps, those who have the appetite haven't the food, and vice versa

That's probably coz if you push on in one of those top bracket cars your speed is so high that anyone who regularly does it is probably no longer has a driving license

When I came across a GT3 rs on a trackday i thought someone had swapped my engine for a 1.0 diesel whilst I was signing on

Did a track day a few years ago with a mate and his Diablo. We were chased (unsuccessfully) by a fully race prepared Caterham 7 whose driver came up afterwards and congratulated the driver on actually using the full performance of the car.

So at least some are used fully
