Default Skid pans, where/how can you get on them, possible group booking or anything?

As per title ideally i'm after access to a skid pan kinda thing maybe even for a large group. Have looked at Don Palmer things but must confess i dont much fancy the stone chips thing at Bruntingthorpe & such like so figured a skid pan would be ideal but have no idea where they are or how to get on them?
Noticed the local IAM did occasionally go on them but well bit of a mission..............
Any ideas, cunning plans etc greatfully received?

I went to Goodwood and had a go at the "skid control" course, run on the small skidpan there. I did a short notice booking which costs around £40 for a few hours tuition. Worth that but not much more IMHO as the guy was only interested in us keeping control (pretty easy at such low speed) and kept telling me to take it easy as I deliberately provoked his car into some lurid tail slides. Still I ignored him and got on with having some fun until he turfed me out.

Try here http://www.skidcontrol.co.uk/Index2.htm well worth a short notice booking if you can manage it, not sure I'd pay full price.

Essex Police have shut their skid-pan

Had PTMW! on it about 2 weeks before they did - giggle

There is a skid car that is based @ Donno I believe. They came & did Prodrive Live! 18 months ago. That was one leary thing - Vectra which got its ar$e out then it's front, then it's ar$e....

Actually, thinking about it, Prodrive Live! might be worth looking into as they have a "variable surface" ability. Maybe they might do just a skiddy course - Mike/Nick/Simon care to comment?

Si- I'm sure there was a skid pan next to the kart track, just down the road from the Curborough sprint course in Lichfield.

It's the Fradley industrial estate if it's still there, about 45 minutes from you or 30 mins in a fast car.

You need to ask Gossy the Valeter - he hired a place for a group of people, not far from Silverstone last year. I think the place begins with a 'T'

One answer lies at the bottom of this page.

Not cheap mind. Not compared to the Chelmsford Police course that was done over four evenings with a Skid Pan & demo drive in an unmarked police car on the final fifth day.All for £40.

You can learn a lot from a skidpan. You will probably get to experience loosing control of a FWD and RWD but sadly, I have never found a skidpan that gives you experience of AWD. There is a substantial difference between them all when losing control.

If you just want to play, we (www.briskoda.net) are having a handling day this Saturday, there are 3 or 4 spaces available, cost is £35. Details are here. You may need to register to be able to view it, but you are more than welcome, it's not just Skodas, think we've got Supras, 205's and Elises as well.

aha sounds interesting i've registered & asked wot story is with venue on there but dont suppose you/anyone else knows is it a airstrip kinda thing like bruntingthorpe or owt or better surface?
Sh!tter is a i'm a no go this weekend as not got car back yet, hence the desire to learn it's limits in safety after it had an unhealthy debate with a crash barrier lol
Cheers

First time I went to Chelmsford we used two old patrol cars. One of which had the rear diff welded up making in effect a solid rear axle.

This last time I went with Tiny & we both took our own cars on.These being a MY01 WRX & my old UK300.

Understeer - still heading for the bank with a fair bit of lock on.

Oversteer - held with steering & throttle.

Great fun & possibly a life saver.

Mark.

Tried it at Thruxton in used Sierra's, need to be ready for the scrappy if you don't want oil and sh*t all over your interior.

I've done the 4x4 and Rally Stage at Warwick and think they said they run the Skid pan on the larger Corperate Days IIRC I am also interested in a skid pan type course might have saved me a scratch
