WRX03. Went and got a cheapo socket set, but two of the nuts have really long bolts through them so the bit that attaches to the socket can't go on.

Is there a special bit I need, or any other tips? Pliers didn't seem to work. Is there a reason Subaru made it so difficult to remove?

Lol, all you need is a deep socket. Try your local Halfrauds or whatever other tool shops you have close by.

Also make certain you've got all the nuts out before trying to pull the spoiler off. You may find a couple hidden underneath the rubber bumpers in the top of the bootlid.

Just a deep 10mm socket on the 4 visible nuts ( try and not drop them down into the boot skin - try a little grease inside the socket), disconnect the wiring plug on the right hand side for the high level brake light and a gentle but firm tug should split them apart. If this is to fit an STi high level spoiler, then the fun really begins!!!

Just gonna screw it into the existing holes, with some tape along the centre to provide cushioning

Also, do I reuse the bolts from the ironing board, or the screws provided with the spoiler (replica from DR motorsport)

Buy length of rope, find large tree, attach rope to spoiler and tree, then drive forward at good speed, spoiler removed.

got the necessary now, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow now. Still, should be all finally done by next Tuesday

Only use the bolts supplied with your new spoiler.

Hi DR, thanks for getting the spoiler to me!

The spoiler came with only one hex type bolt in one corner, the other holes are all cross head screw types. they OK to use? I assume I remove any screws that I'm not going to actually use.

Also, if I tape it down, how do I get to the light to replace the bulb (bit disappointed with the red led, preferred the white OE)? Seems to need removal of the spoiler to get at it. Can I just use the tape as cushioning so it'll come off again? Can I replace the red leds with the white OE ones?

After taking the 4 nuts off the threaded studs with your 10mm long reach socket, and dis-connecting the black brakelight cable to the right.

You will find the spoiler is still fixed in place.

The reason for this is that there are two plastic clips holding it down, these clips are like door card snap fit clips, just pull it off with a jolt from one end then the other.

NB: Dont drop any of the M10 nuts between the inner and outer skin of the boot, or they will rattle about for the rest of the cars life.........

PS. If your fitting a new high level after market spoiler, or TSL spoiler lifters, I suggest you use clear silicone on re-assenbly around the 4 boot holes, and the brakelight cable hole.

There have been masses of posts from people who have done this job to find a pond in their boot the next time it rained.

LMAO, I wish I'd read this thread before changing my spoiler over....... Yep, a nut dropped between the skins

Had to take the whole boot lid off and swing it around at all sorts of angles before it finally dropped out of the hole from which it fell into

The neighbours were looking on with wonder as to why I was dancing around the drive with my boot lid

So who's idea was it to tell a numpty to use silicon sealer? and how do I get off the excess?

Also got a nut down the skin (very small hole, and it always comes off one turn earlier than you expect)

Other than that, its on, and just with the four holes. I tried to mark the extra holes twice (masking tape imprint and crayon round the holes), but no good. Should hold though, I've used about 5 rolls of double sided tape.

My masterplan is coming on nicely - just two more steps now..

getting my side skirts back from the paintshop on Saturday, and new wheels on Tuesday, so if the weathers nice I'll try and get some pics up then. That'll be me sorted for the foreseeable future.
