Farewell import, hello UK spec with scooby ECU?
It looks as if I'm going to have to get rid of my jap spec WRX and get a wagon. The problem is I can't work out what to do for the best, all the jap wagons I've seen have been real dogs. But UK spec wagons seem to available for next to nothing and in really good condition.
The problem is this am I going to be really dissapointed with the performance? Would one of these early UK wagons with a scoobyecu match my WRX for pace (was RR'd at 240bhp on 98 RoN fuel). Is it realistic to expect a UK car to match this figure when remapped?
Just don't know what to do for the best, even thought about a 850T5 estate in a moment of madness, can't put up with a slower scoob.

JDM, A Uk spec wagon & a scooby Ecu, you will not be dissapointed, UK's have a longer Gear ratio, So better for distance, Plus cheaper insurance & easily modifiable to Big Bhp, Im currently running a MY94 Uk Last R & R 311 Bhp & 270 Torque, Apexi Power Fc Ecu & remap at the end of the month for even more

Thought about the modified route and although I know it's a bit stupid I'd rather start with a clean slate rather than risking a potentially thrashed or badly modified car. Have my eye on a fully loaded 50K mile MY96 Wagon for 4K. If I can get it for that I'll have a grand or so for scoobyecu, back box and partial decat as well as a geometry reset.
Wonder if it will match the oomph of the jap car, here's hoping.

The grand was for all the mods! However if I paid a bit more than the £100 or so quid usually quoted could I get a custom mapped scoobyecu?
Fancy one running max boost (17psi?) although perhaps other mods are needed to take account of a higher boost level. Still new to this modding game, never felt the need with the WRX but the standard UK I drove felt a bit slow really.

I found the uk car a lot slower to the WRX,I have recently driven both and compared them, the imports feels a lot lot faster as standard and correct me if im wrong has a bigger turbo and different internals...but think of easy servicing/parts etc I settled for an early WRX STi wagon and the engines sweeter then all the uk cars I seen...maybe i was lucky

I'm talking about getting one of the first impreza wagons- ie pre 97. As far as I know the UK cars have the TD05 turbo (bigger) and the WRX wagons of this age have the smaller TD04 turbo.
An STi wagon probably has the close deck block, shorter ratios and the need for 98 RON+ Octane booster, maybe the bigger turbo too? One of the reasons I'm looking at a UK car is the ease of using just 98 RON. I was interested to know what sort of power a UK wagon with scoobyecu would put out and if it would match my WRX saloon.
One thing I do know though it won't have half as many toys and I'll probably sweat my knackers off in the thing as none seem to have air con!

JDM,
If you have a Grand for Mods you will have a flyer, The Wrx seem more spirited because of the shorter box , More buzzy & like you say the early Uk's have the Td05 which is good for 350 Bhp.
There was a really nice Black wagon for sale on here not so long ago.
While the wrx's are still changing gear were excelerating away
