MY04 WRX Seats
Hello to everybody, this is my first post!
Does anybody know if it's possible to get bucket seats (as opposed to the side airbag seats) for an UK MY04 WRX?
The latest Subaru brochure shows bucket seats and says that the side airbags are optional, however one dealer I spoke to at the weekend said that all WRXs come with the side airbag seats and that the brochure is wrong as it's a global brochure.
The reason I ask is that I've got an MY98 Turbo and the seats are great, whereas when I had a test drive in an MY03 with the side airbag seats I thought the seats were crap and actually put me off buying the car.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,
I cannot unfortunately give you a definitive answer, although it was my impression that on the 04 you get a choice, but maybe that's only because I've seen it in the brochure too! I do know that you can get bucket seats on 03 WRX imported cars. I traded my 99 turbo 2000 for an 03 WRX and you are right, the seats are awful, for some reason thought I'd get used to them, but I haven't. Have tried every possible path to get them replaced with something more suitable, but it just doesn't seem possible.

Putting the STI seats in is certainly a possibility but it just doesn’t seem right buying a brand new car and having to change the seats!

*Chris* welcome to SN
9 weeks ago I changed from an MY99 to an MY04. The seats in the MY99 were superb. Very supportive but a little hard if driving for a long while.
I've now got the MY04 seats comfortable... and like other people on this post... I too have tried just about every position (twice) to get the right setting.
The new seats are a lot more plusher and softer, but not as good as the old ones. Having said that... I've suffered back problems for years and find the MY04 seat to be really supportive on my lower back.
I'm sure a few years use will see the seats crush down a bit and become more 'buckety', but if you can get STI seats fitted for a reasonable cost... do it !
J.
PS. The MY04 seats are quite a bit smaller (length wise on the actual part where you put your bum) and the side squabs/shoulder supports are tiny.... I think that's why they feel uncomfortable

I hated the sports seats on UK WRX and this helped me decide to import. 1 year on no regrets and no back ache either!
