Question Stopping stuff bouncing around in the boot

I have a WR1 arriving in the next month or so. For work, I carry around a plastic toolbox about 500x300mm in size. How do I stop this rolling around in the boot? Is it possible to use loading points & straps, or should I get a big piece of foam & cut it to size?

Subarus are work vehicles!!!

a few dents or scratches from the inside adds character and aids in the ruggedness and manliness of the Marque....

can you imagine farmers putting velcro boots on the lambs when thay carry them in the back.....

lol

Lightbulb cargo net

I have a Subaru cargo net in the boot. Although designed for the wagon it clips quite nicely to the underside of the cross member in the boot of the saloon. Suitability will depend on the weight of the toolbox. I think that anything up to about 3kg would be restrained.

HTH.

I didn't know I could get a cargo net, where does it fix? If there are anchor points, I can just use those with my regular elastic things. The toolbox is about 6kg.

Plastic box (large one) with snap on lid (about £3 off the market).

Fix velcro to the bottom.

Sorted.

Bit of carpet underlay (with the rubberside up ) cut to fit the boot helps hold things in place a bit

Thumbs up

Subaru website Accessories / Impreza -> 2003MY onward / Interior / Cargo Net (5 DOOR ONLY) (Sorry, can't link directly to the page).

As I said, although it says '5 door only' it can be clipped to the underside of the boot crossmember (MY02 anyway). There are no official anchor points, but enough holes in the crossmember to give a selection. If you already secure it with bungees then I suspect that you will be able to get away with the same 'system'.

Thanks for the idea mate, however I don't think you know how I drive! Velcro is not going to hold anything in my car!

That's good info thanks - there's even a pic on the Subaru site! If this fits a 4 door, it would be perfect for shopping trips, but no good for my toolbox which is too big & heavy.

I saw the wink Dave...!

Does the Impreza 3 really not have any fixing points in the boot? How are we supposed to carry stuff around? Even if I'm carrying a computer box, I can't have it banging away back there!

Maybe the best bet is some shaped foam pieces. When I was into cameras a little more, I used to have this alu box that was full of foam. The foam had partially cut cubes in it & you just pressed out the cubes to fit the kit you wanted to carry. If I had a lump of foam to cover the whole floor of the boot, maybe to 6" thick, I could then use a stanley knife to cut out a shape for my toolbox. Any ideas?

Go to Halfords and buy a non slip boot mat. I have a couple and they work, only about 7 quid.

Yes, the back seat is where 'puters will have to go, I can't leave the toolbox there though.

I tend to roll things in carpet when putting them in the boot.Stops them moving about too much.Mind you they have normally stopped moving by the time I put them in there.AhEM!!!!!!!!!

Peg board.

Cut to fit either part or all of boot.A jig saw will cope with fibre, plastic or metal peg board.

It can be anchored to the boot floor with clips or if you are brutal with self tappers. If shaped to whole of boot then it will self anchor.

Then you put tool box on the board & mark round its edges. Also any other loose stuff like fire extinguisher or tyre pump etc.

Cut some small lengths of 1"x 1" batten & bolt round the outline you marked using mushroom headed gutter bolts to spread the load on the under side of the peg board.

You then slot your item into the enclosure made by the blocks.

If your tool box jumps out of an inch deep recess then sign up for Subarus WRT.

I used this method to carry tools, can of petrol, snow shovel & other recovery gear no problems.

i use one of them plastic bread trays and tie it to the inside by the boot lock.
there is loads of octane booster and a spare gallon of optimax plus jump leads etc in it and it stays there, job done!

Non slip boot mat and an octopus bungee as in the wagon boot there are lots to metal tie-downhooks to use. Otherwise I find that gravity has no hold on any article in my boot once I start moving

Two bungees with hooks on the ends linked round the handles of a cardboard box works a treat for me.
