Default Frightened Senseless Lastnight MY02sti Max Speed??

Ok here goes i was passenger in an MY02sti last night travelling along a very quiet piece of motorway when a biker pulled up along side (@65mph) and egged us on, the driver deceided to have some and dropped 2 gears and off we went the next minute of so is a blur as all i want concentrating on was the bike in front ( i dont know my bikes all i can say was that it was new, big, yellow/black and fasssst)

anyways to cut a long story short the Sti has its change light/beeper set to 6000 revs and this was hit and beyond in 6th gear. The biker to say the least was gobsmacked I was utterly shocked as the speedo had gone past the 160mph indicated and was heading towards the digital display..................... at the next stop we all got out...... and had some butties ( all 3 of us )

My question is :-

a whats the top end on an MY02sti

b Maybe the clock is well wrong

c Should i EVER let my brother-in-law drive my car again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably a 600cc bike, as any of the 900cc+ sports bikes would be well away. But racing bikes is fun.

Hawk,

As your car is a one off WR1 matcher then no-one else can know what its potential top speed is. In excess of that for a 'normal' Sti I would imagine.

Thumbs down

But racing bikes is fun.
...and totally stupid

in the above case at least the dude egged you on but the two shouln't mix on public roads ever

PS I've raced most things on public roads so I ain't some old pr1ck that just rants for the sake of it but one slip from Mr biker or a sharp dab on the brakes and it's game over for him

Speedking,

sorry i should of explained further then......

what is the theoretical max speed of an MY02sti

standard 6 speed box.... what sort of speed were we running at if it was off the clock.... im not interested in mines faster than yours etc etc

just completely shaken how fast we were going and the fact that it went off the clock i thought they were limited??

or is this just in the ecu?

also speedking i detect from your post some sarcasm or is it the cynical side of me that thinks that

SiPie agreed going that speed is totally stupid I havent and wouldnt but it happend with three of us in the car !!!! anything goes wrong and your brown bread.

My question is merely regarding theoretical top end versus gearing/ revs.... i really didnt think my car should have gone so fast

Good fun - for reference my 03 WRX (260bhp) has shown 158 (@6100rpm) on the clock - which accounting for a 5% speedo error - probably amounts to a genuine 150+

theoreticle top speed given that the car does 24.7 mph per 1000rpm in sixth would be in the region of 180mph...
i the reall world it would just nudge 160 with 300 bhp... no wind, wing mirrors folded in and a long road! its more likly to push about 155 max though
My old BM330 was booked at 155 road tests got 153 and that was with 231 bhp...
My STI MY03 ran 145 in 1.25 miles on a an airstrip last year... and I've had the rev counter on 7k in top once... but it was bloody scary, the speedo was reading mad speed and was getting a bit micky mouse... so not reliable.

Missed a gear at elvington last week and the speed trap read 135. looking at my clock it was reading a nadge over 140...

I personaly think you can have more than enough fun without going over the ton...

dazza i agree wholeheartedly with your comments i have 99.99% of my fun without going over 90 ,

still i just couldnt believe what i saw on the dash, when my Brother in law (grrrrrrrrr) finally backed off the speedo was halfway between the 160 and the digital trip readout...... you couldnt hear much of anything due to me shouting expetives at him
