Question JDM STI8

Can anyone shed some light on this.
i have just bought a 2003 JDM STI8. does anyone know if they have equal lenght headers as there is a distinct lack of flat four rumble (firestorm fitted). also what is the standard bhp? am i right in thinking over 300?

na mate http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=283364 for the power 'out of the box'! equal length headers remove the 'flat four rumble',so you put it!
get a get a 'tech3' remap and you should be looking at over 300bhp.

Maybe, but your terminology is a bit mixed up - although most people round here seem to make the same mistake.

i have just bought a 2003 JDM STI8.
Erm, no such thing. 2002 model year STi's are STi8's. 2003MY cars are STi9's, if you're going to give them a number. It'd be better all round if you didn't, due to the fact that so many people use the wrong numbers, as you've just found out.

does anyone know if they have equal lenght headers
Depends what you've really got. If you really have got a 2003 car (i.e. it has the "new" front end treatment), yes, it has equal length headers. If you really have a bugeye (i.e a 2002MY STi8), no, it has the older headers.

as there is a distinct lack of flat four rumble (firestorm fitted).
Sounds like you have the equal length headers then. Should growl/howl rather than rumble.

also what is the standard bhp?
Officially, 280ps. Unofficially, more.

am i right in thinking over 300?
As mentioned above, the official figure is 276bhp. What the cars actually do in practice depends on what fuel you use, whether you're talking about a completely standard car or not, which rolling road you measure it on, and so-on. It probably cracks 300, maybe 310, maybe a little bit more, but this figure is irrelevant really, it's how it goes that counts, as you've found out.

cheers GM.
it is indeed the 9. new front end and mahoosive bonnet scoop.
it does indeed howl/ growl and yes as i've found out goes like absolute stink in all six gears.
best fun i've had with a car in a while.
thanks again for clearing up my thickness.
