Even after the warning, I bl**dy missed them.
I went home to set the video, got in and thought, 'what was I meant to be doing here?' couldn't remember and went straight out again.

Has anyone in the M3 corridor got this on tape?

Cheers,

Peter.

My only dissapintment was that they didn't mention the Alfasud as THE original hothatch on Clarkson.
I always wanted a Ti Cloverleaf in black but somehow could never find one that didn't look like it had been used for blunderbuss target practice.
Did anyone spot the white scooby crossing the background at Catalunya? Could it have been one of our intrepid group from the SIDC?

Neil.

H all.

What an absolute cracking nites viewing on BBC2 .....

Clarkson with the 80's hot hatches, what a laugh that was ... Golf GTi vs XR3i ... Barbour jacket vs shell suit and to top it off the cossie escort ... and don't forget to say cossie correctly

The question has to be where is the "ButterTub Pass" in Yorkshire... is it as good as it looked and when are we all going for a drive ??

C'mon then how much would you of donated to a good cause to sit along side richard in the scoob around that stately home ??

crakin tv

Top TV!

The sound of the WRC at the stately home was amazing - although my girlfriend asked if it was ill (popping, flames etc.)

I wonder if Mr Burns would take her in part exchange for letting me drive the WRC a lap or 2

I thought Clarkson's programme was a real laugh. He kept building the cars up as if there was none better, then he'd let slip "... and then along came the 205!" (with smug expression and all). It was great to see the 205 T16 as well. Shame they didn't manage to get a road going verison on the programme (apparently there is only a couple in this country).

Yeah mega TV.

Good how he kept building up each car, with a better and better one. Then guess what...he ended up with the Escort Cossie . What a surprise

Both shows excellent.

Was it me or was Clarkson not pushing the Cossie too hard over the pass ( probably something to do with the owner sitting close by / chasing him ).

I particularly liked the 'Geological' bit which he canned and hit the road.

I thought he prounced it kahsi. As in I've got a Escort Kahsi.

Why is it the cossie is classed as a hot hatch and the Impreza as a sport's saloon(even in 5 door!)?

Two doors and a hatch back in the Cossie

as opposed to

2 or 4 doors and a boot

4 doors and a hatch.

Brilliant TV. Clarkson was so funny, loved the out take with the Maestro MG at the end (Class leading brakes LOL).

Shame Foot in the door didn't have a little more insight into the actual running of the team i could have watched that all night.
I know it was all about the 3 lads and it was really good, but did anyone else pick Nick to get the job 2 minutes after the show started. Don't know why, it just seemed like a one horse race from the start.
Anyway it was all worth it just to listen to the WRC car rip it up through the grounds of Cornbury Park, Kewl

Clarkson brought back fond memories of the 85 RAC Press Day in Blidworth Forest; almost every type of Group B car was there including the 'georgeous' RS200.

Kev: I think we will have to talk to the Northern Boys about the 'Butter-Tub Pass Scooby pilgimage'

The 'Foot in the door' program was excellent, it's about time they had a behind the scenes look at the WRC teams.

Kev,

Buttertubs Pass, If you get your map book out and look for Hawes in North Yorkshire (J37 M6 onto A684)you'll see a tiny road (no number) that runs between Hawes and Thwaite(which lies on the B6270). I've been over it a couple of times although not in the Scoob. Good fun but not a place to have an 'off'.

Enjoy

Cool

Indeed...fantastic TV...

'I've got a Cossaughe' (imagine droopy bottom lip] .... very funny...I laughed...and laughed...and laughed.

I was quite surprised they didn't cover things like the Renault 5 GT Turbo...Astra 16v etc...they were very popular in their times...I guess there is only so much you can bang into a 1/2 hour show..

I have fond memories of the RS200...I actually was at the Reliant factory when they were been built (don't ask).. and managed to get blast in the passenger seat of one (ok...I was only a nipper at the time...my feet couldn't reach the pedals ...but it was GRP.B spec...not the road-going version)...its a real shame that this car helped to grind GRP.B to a complete halt. I shall never forget this experience...it single handedly jumpstarted my love of motorsport.

Foot in the door was excellent...my girlfriends son is just starting his motorsport engineering degree...he has cosworth racing and prodrive on his hit list for when he's finished...maybe he can get some spare parts out the back door for me

Anyway...work calls

Foot in the door was excellent - loved RB racing round the stately home - nearly got the two peacocks, but not quite.

Didn't actually think that Nick would get it, but glad he did. Thought the blonde guy would (not the lazy/peroxide one).

Funny how he didn't mention the Scoobies or EVO's last night, a different league as he last called them Oh well it was aimed at hot hatches and not SUPERCARS ie Skyline I suppose.

I suppose the Cossie was good in it's day Shame he couldn't go any faster in a standard Cossie as we saw last night

Had severe brake-fade at the northern end of Buttertubs. I had been very gentle in my G60 (wife in car) & my Tarox 40 grooves (6 mnths old) completely failed to stop me at the T-junction. Scary moment for me & I got a telling off from her for not stopping at the junction!

Gilly ..

Thanks for the tip.. I'll have to get the map out at lunch time and see how far it is ..

Chris ..

Another Northern Meet per chance

Ian ..

I have fond memories of the RS200 ... they used to catch fire or break-down just outside the factory at the traffic lights on their first outing on a road ..... "when I were a lad ...."

Was a brill programme .... even down to the brummie accent in the MG hot hatch ... classic stuff ..... I wonder if he "really" wanted his coss'eh back though ?? still family saloons next week

The SIDC were stood behind the camera's has it was being filmed on the Shakedown and the WET service on Day 1.

None of us were carrying our equity cards so could not get in front of the cameras.

The White Scoob in background, I think, was one of the WRX-RA Gravel Cars.

Harj...

Dont suppose your comments have got anything to do with the fact that YOU have also looked at buying an escort cozza recently, stopped by the fact that nobody would insure you

These were 2 brilliant programmes, and you UK lot should be very very proud !

Hell will freeze over before we get shows of this calibre on Belgian TV.

Cool

When Clarkson was driving the 205gti over those nice country roads, was I the only one thinking that a scoob/evo might just manage to keep up where the ferarri et al had no chance? I bet his "Cozza" could have had a chance to.

I to think it was a one horse race in the Foot in the door programme, the gearbox test kind of gave it away, didn't it!

All in all, a very entertaining hour of telly.

Butter Tubs Pass:
Have a look at the map below, looks like a prime site for inclusion in a Northern meet

[That's if they have any energy left after the Wildings event or can stop arguing with each other like the Snake Pass thread]

Another good programme from Clarkson. Shame they didn;t show more of the 80s machinery like the 5 GT Turbo,Clio Williams. Astra GTE Pug 309 etc.

Cossie always seemed a slightly different type of hot hatch more like a junior supercar.

Having driven alot of this type of machinery my vote would go to the Fiat Abarth 130TC. Crazy Recaro race seats and amazing twin cam , twin 40 engine...nice...very nice. Far better drives car than the Golf could ever hope and from my breif drives in the 205, better than this too.
