Scoobies - getting too common?
When I first decided I wanted a turbo, some 8 years or so ago, I'd see one particular car on my commute to work.
Now, I'm getting to the point of owning my first one and on my trip from Dundee to Edinburgh to drop my wife to the airport, I saw 3 Turbos on the Forth Road Bridge, and another 4 incl. RB5 in a car park at the Airport...
Come back, and there's a older WRX parked in the car park of the flat...
Crikey... I guess the MY93 etc prices are now at a state where most people can afford.
Are they losing their wow factor now? You hardly ever see an Evo on the road.
Still no putting me off, but it's a little disappointing.
Mark.

For me, not having yet owned one, it was all about "wow, look there's a Scooby". Now, it's the same as saying "wow, look there's a Fiesta".
I know what you're saying though. The more there are on the road, well that's just good taste in the owner then

The problem is their a victim of their own success. And were as most high performance cars have a short shelf live i. e the great Integrale or Cossie, the Subaru keeps getting a face lift they have been around a long time now were as the Intergrale or Cossie and your GTIR's were only in production for a short while. So theirs loads to chose from to suit all wallets. Tony

just think of it as reassuring. Means they are still likely to be sold for a while yet as the numbers are doing ok.
It always seems odd that people say they are common, when surely thats the whole point of manufacturing a car?

lots of people buy em cos they are good cars m8.......fun,fast,reliable and stylish!!
ive been a scoob owner for the last 7 months and ive gotta say that 50% of the other scoob owners ive met have a common problem.
they look down their nose at "boy racer" cars and even other scoobs that are older than theirs.....amogst other things.

I think they are getting more common, I'm certainly noticing a lot more, but part of that may be because I'm looking. It is reassuring, as mrklaw says, as if they are selling, they'll keep making them! One good thing for me, who has wanted a scoob since being at primary school (OK, it was only 8 yrs ago), is that more scoobs means that they are possibly cheaper to buy second hand now they are not as rare, so I can afford one sooner

Go with what your happy with and don't even think about it - if you like driving a Scoob, then that's the car for you I made the mistake of fighting what I wanted and went for an Evo instead of a Scoob (to be different and stand out more). I didn't get as much attention in it and I found out I'm just not an Evo driver (especially with the extra cost it was for me).
It was a high price to pay to learn the hard way of "drive what you like" and stuff the rest

losing the wow factor, no way m8 well not for me anyway or any of my mates.
In my opinion after much research, the scoob is THE car to have and I would'nt bother with anything else under £30k new.
Yep maybe more common on the road than a few years back, but hey that's a good thing cos you get to meet more owners and get more waves

The 2 door scoobys are a lot less common,im lucky if i see 1 a day .I definately see a lot more evos than type r's,22B,p1 etc.As was said above there is a hell of a lot more modeos, escorts, cavaliers etc so whats the big issue, apart from a magazine sold by a tramp with a scabby dog

More common equals =
1. More choice for the buyer.
2. Cheaper parts and more suppliers.
3. More owners to get to know.
4. Bigger and more useful Scoobynet.
5. More dealers (in theory).
I don't notice how many Kia Prides are on the road because I don't look for them. You get the drift.
Greatest car I have ever owned, no questions.

Hasn't put me off the dream though. Just wondered what other people thought.
I saw 2 on the way to work today - and that's a 3 mile trip. They appear to be more common up here in Scotland...

surely being common is a good thing? Shows that the cars must be really good in my opinion.
Depends if you bought the car as an accessory or to drive i think, I love driving and the adrenelin rush you get from B roads, dont really care what joe public thinks as he passes and dont care that someone around the corner may have one too!
Its sad to think some people bought their scoobies for what people think of it rather than for what its good at!

When they get as common as mini's then I'll get worried.
We counted scoobs and mini's on trip from Lake District to Edinburgh last year - the mini's won 16-2!
...and we were only counting new mini's! My girlfriend had argued that scoobs were more common - the result shut her right up.

I bought my first of 3 scoobies in 1997 - at that stage it was a great q-car and pretty rare. Since then it has changed and as you can see from this thread most owners seem to be new to them. The ownership has changed dramatically.
As to 'they are still the car to have' - what sort of rubbish is that ? They are great fun cars, but not 'the' car - just one of a few that are fast and handle very well. When there was nothing like it at the price, they were the car to have. Now loads of cars compete on their pace and price - originally there was hardly any competition.
Great cars and a great community but lets not kid ourselves.

Surely most people on here own them or like them, so for these people, they will be "the car to have"
They are just peoples' opinions and not a general statement of fact.
