Angry Blobeye battery flat

Well, it's been threatening for a few weeks now but the battery in my MY03 WRX was dead this morning . Got a boost and went straight up to the (s)dealer who promptly fitted a replacement. Discussed with him about it possibly being linked to faulty relays and he ordered a couple and will fit them when they come.
Had a chat with my dad later, and he says they had a similar problem on Renault Lagunas a couple of years back, and it was isolated down to the stereo drawing current even when switched off.
One day we might have a definative answer, until then let's all keep clutching at straws

Dave - thought it was generally regarded as a faulty batch, mate?

No such probs in the bugeye..... Except when I didn't use it for four months.....

There were problems with batteries in the "bug-eye" Lots of them had to be replaced, including that in my sons STi when he had it.
We've both got 03STi's now and both have had new batteries!

Unhappy

Guys, you may have read my thread entitled goodbye fellow scoob owners, I am sick of the problem (STi UK MY03) so I am after selling it now and going to get a TDi Golf. Sad I know but hopefully at least I should have a car that doesn't let me down after a few days of non use. Good luck with your cars.

Neilo, I wonder if this indicates the alternator may be overcharging the battery and reducing its lifetime? By ensuring there is always a little drain there you may be preventing overcharging damage

Corradoboy, i remember seeing a thread on here about 9 or 10 months ago saying that if you had your side lights on it did pretty much what your saying, to be honest i just do it as a matter of principle anyway, given that the car turns the lights off when you take the key out anyway!!

since then i havent had any trouble, and i had one of the first ones at march 2003.

Neil.

Neil, do you use the main sidelight switch on the stalk or the button on top of the steering binnacle

Guys - the one on the steering binnacle leaves the parking lights on even when the ignition is off. As such, this isn't really a suitable solution to your suggestion Dave.

As Neil mentioned, the stalk switch is wired through the ignition, so the lights extenguish as soo nas the key is turned the the off position.

I've seen many posts about batteries going flat over the course of this past year mostly for the the 2003/04 Impreza GDB (STI). I've had my 2003 JDM STI for over 12 months and have not experienced any problems with a flat battery.

Up until this last month I'd been using the STI almost on a daily basis but then switched to mostly driving our run-around car to save on petrol. Anyway the STI was last driven about 2 weeks ago so I wanted to take it for a quick Sunday afternoon blast...but nothing...alarm would even work and had to use the key to open the door for the first time LOL !!! I've left the car untouched before and was fine but anything over a week seems to be too long or frequently leaving a car undriven will lead to this result.

JDM - SchmayDM ... guess where I'll be going tomorrow?
