Looking for strong alloy wheels
#1
I am starting to look into getting some wheels. Since I live in the pothole capitol of the eastcoast of the US, Wash. DC, I need something strong. I REALLY want the OZ ST that are on the WRC car, but am concerned about bending or getting them out of round. How strong are they? How would they compare to say Advan's? Is there anything else out there that are as strong or stronger, as light ot lighter and doesn't cost me my left...er.......kidney, yeah thats it kidney. Suggestions?

Lovejoy, I had the same conserns, as I bend to wheels on my former car. ( I went of the track on Nurburgring, during a driving education )I will never buy cheep weels again. In the long run they are to expensive, when you have to replace or repair them.
I have bought the OZ ST2 in gold for my MY99, as they are made out of a stronger type of Aluminium than the normal OZ wheels. OZ have a range of road wheels and the Rally / Racing wheels.
The OZ ST2 for the Impreza is only available in the strong Rally version. This is also the reason for the high price.
I have only done 4000 km on the OZ's. No problem up to now.
Best regards Lars

Thanks. I guess I had better put my kidney up on Ebay and see if I can get a set. My blood type is sought-after so it should not be a problem. BTW Lars, how much did your Oz's cost, if you don't mind me asking, and what size?

Hello,
The FAQ Says prodrive used speedline safaris on old cars when rallying due to thier strength.
I have some on my Scooby that has done 95,000 miles and they are still looking good and I live in the sticks where there potholes big enough to swallow a small family car!

lovejoy,i had a set of speedlines(turismo double spoke) on my last impreza, looked great, but had to replace one due to pothole damage, now got a set of raceline rl7s and can safly say they are as strong as $*#%,my car gets used by a few people at work, and always comes back with curb damage, but only paint /lacquer chipping of. if these were speedlines half the wheel would be missing.
most group n imprezas use the rl7 for gravel as well

The sccobysport MIMs are very strong. Speak to Pete Croney who will tell you an interesting story of a guy who buckled all four OZ St2s on a european rally trip when all other cars in the pack running SS Mims were fine.
