Default Computers and Cars

Just a few thoughts on computers versus cars. I'm not the originator of this but it's worth a read.

If a car breaks down these days with so much computing power inside, it's almost worth closing the windows. getting out, get back in, re-open the windows and it'll probably be fine........

If cars developed at the same rate and way as computers they'd probably behave like this :

For no reason whatsoever your car would crash twice a day.

Every time the lines in the middle of the road were repainted you'd need to buy a new car.

Occasionally your car would die on a motorway for no obvious reason - you'd just have to accept this, restart and drive on.

Sometimes, executing a left turn your car would shut down, refuse to restart and would only restart after re-installing the engine. My favourite!

Company 'Z' would create a car powered by the sun, reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive but will only run on 5% of the roads.

The airbag system would ask ' are you sure? ' before activating.

For no reason whatsoever your car would lock you out, refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lift the door handle, turn the key and hold the radio antenna.

Every time a new model car is introduced buyers would have to learn to drive all over again. Because none of the controls would function in the same manner as previously.

that was a joke that went round email ages ago.

It was supposedly after bill gates likened the car market to computer development in an attempt to explain how good they were at advancing things. The thing you have written above was supposedly the eply from the chairman of gm.

I suspect that was just the way they told the joke rather than any valid quote.

See, We're out in the sticks here and we've only just got broadband - it obviously takes a while for this stuff to filter down.
