Do a search on oil, theres millions of posts.
I read most of them and I use Mobile1 15W50 fully synth, on my MY01WRX.
Didnt use it on the 1st or 2nd service though as it wasnt recomended for a brand new engine.
But I have not had any problems with it other than the ridiculess price.
And yes they do sell it at Halfrauds.
If your only doing a top up due the oil usage inbetween services, you need to find out what its had in it at its last service.

Phone your dealer
Didn't want to mix oils topping up so I called the service department. They use GTXmagnatec. Not what I was expecting! Got some at Halfords and I'll get something different when it goes in for 12 month service. 03STI type UK.

If you're only topping up, it's not of huge import what you use. However, if you do have full synth in now and your engine isn't into five figures yet, I'd be tempted to drop it out and put some Helix Plus in instead.

At the end of the day the warranty will no doubt last longer than my ownership so not too worried. Lets hope that the dealer knows their stuff!!

Mobil 1 Motorsport is an excellent oil sti-04!!, and it's certainly fine for topping up an existing fill, but opinion remains that it's too early to put a fully synthetic oil in.
Tricky if your dealer has their own ideas about how things should be done, but if it were me I'd quietly ask them to use a quality semi-synth when you have the oil changed. Shell Helix Plus, Mobil Super S, or Motul 200V, all at 10w/40, would be perfect. Change again at around 7K for more of the same, and go back to full synth at the 10K service.

GM - being a diesel buff & not being mega clued up on that boxer, will using fully synth, cause premature wear ??
If so i will do it change the oil myself in the morning, to semi synth
ps will this give any change in performance as well

Not premature wear as such, but as stated above it can inhibit the correct completion of the running-in process.
If you're up to changing the oil yourself, it's certainly not a bad idea to get some good semi in there for a while. Very unlikely to notice a performance difference, no. If you haven't already seen it, might be worth having a quick scan of this before you drop the old oil out.
