Default 2.5lt mod to my Scoob - Where to get it done?

Hi,

I am looking to go for a 2.5lt block upgrade to an Sti5 and shoot for 400+ bhp (I am told that 450 is reasonably acheivable), I would like recommendations for who can carry out this work. Preferably in southern England.

I anticipate that this will require a mega upgrade of the ancilliary bits plus ecu remap/replacement as necessary. The gearbox will also need some work (some very dodgey noises!).

Have you had this done? Were there any unexpected pitfalls (such as mangled gearbox/diffs, new head etc ...). Should I also change the standard 16" wheels, and if so to 17" or 18"?

Thanks

depends on your budget really mate.

getting the lump is an importing task from the states. i believe there is a group buy on here that will get you the short block 2.5.
you need to put your own heads on etc and obviously a bespoke remap.

Bob Rawle or someone like him could map it for you i am sure. its a case of having your engine built up and fitted. you are gonna need some bigger injctors, uprated fuel pump and reg minimum, the list is endless.

you might want to think about the cams you could use, depending on what you want from the car. turbo choice is another issue.

as for the gear box, you will probably have to either build somehthing that is up to the job using Quaife parts or similar, or the 6 speed box and suretrac diffs from the later cars is a possible solution.

as for the wheels, its more a case of looks than gearing. running 16 wheels versus 17 wheels will probably make no difference tot he gearing with the correct profile tyres. with a smaller wheel you will get better ride quality. thats said the 17's will allow you to go for brake upgrades if you so choose. 330mm ba\rake conversion from Godspeed perhaps.

You need to speak to Mark at www.Lateralperformance.co.uk
It was Mark that started importing the blocks some time ago

GM, check out the Group Buy section. There may be a new GB starting. I also think ScoobyMania are geting some US 2.5 blocks in soon.

Then read the Projects section. The Daily Driver thread, started by John Banks. (Best to brace yourself - it's not for the faint hearted.)

There will be quite a few people building 2.5s over the next few months and no doubt a lot of good advice will be on here.

Richard.
