Try harder SUBARU!
I received a letter today from my Independant Subaru Servicing Agent telling me that Subaru servicing parts are now 55% cheaper than 6 months ago.
So, needing some front brake pads, I rang and enquired about the price - £100 + VAT Sir ........................... ok, that is a lot cheaper than 6 months ago when I got a quote for about £180 all in.
BUT, and this is the clincher ..........
THEY ARE STILL WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!!!!
Now, obviously, Subaru are upset by the tables doing the rounds which show the Impreza as the most expensive car on the planet to fix if it goes wrong - but they need to cut more than 55% off the parts prices to even come close to aftermarket stuff!
Get a grip Subaru!!

There were some interesting posts about this a while back, I think some people were linking it to the fact that most of the parts are that old all the development monies have been returned and now it's just a case of mass producing them and taking the cream.
I'm sure it's not that simple, but if they can afford to slash prices by 50% there must be a logical reason. I'm sure there not making 50% less proffit!

Well, I am truly honoured ....................... not many of us great old SN souls left these days
I just think Subaru are smarting from the kicking they are getting in the lists of costly cars to maintain guides ................. one big reason I was sure about buying a Impreza was that (in 2000) it was NUMBER 1 in the JDPower survey .......... its now way, way down the list (due in no small part to Subaru's ridiculous parts pricing policy!)

ouch at £117.50 it makes performance aftermarket parts seem reasonable. From memory that is lot more exspensive than mintex or ferrodo ds prices.
The majority of cars I have owned have allways had the occasional part that is a lot higher than aftermarket equivalent, Peugeot for example a genuine exhaust was £20 cheaper fitted at a main dealer than any quote from kwik fit and local garages !!. But again their brake prices are exspensive.
Subaru just seem to be exspensive on most parts though.

Joking aside, where, when and how, and of course which model? A late classic on 4 pots as your name suggests?
I couldn't get below £40 for anything and paid £60 for some semi fast raod jobbies from AS Performance. Bloody good pads though.

Pete are you still whinging about your brake pads, you put a post on ages ago, you either drive like Miss Daisy or use the handbrake to stop, just pay up and don't tell the Mrs. how much it cost like everyone else does
i'm not getting started on unit cost versus development costs but the more you make and sell the cheaper the bits get.
If you wait another year they will be even cheaper but you will be moaning at the cost of changing discs and pads then!!

Uncle owns a garage in centre of Cardiff got them off one of his suppliers called dave edwards he also had the Mintex c-tech track pads for £43 which I thought was good but opted for the OEM ones.
Yes they are the 4 pots also did you know that the 4 pot pads are the same as off a Nissan 300ZX

Not rubbing the salt in (or even comparing oranges with oranges) - price of parts for my Merc :-
Front brake pads £14
Front brake disks £25
Rear brake disks £10
These aren't genuine merc parts but high quality replacements !!

Well £100 + VAT is for genuine Subaru Pads - which, in my hands, last for over 50,000 miles! So, maybe mile for mile 0.24p isnt that bad?
