I thought my scoob was crap until I drove someone elses
Last week I had to take someone elses scoob for a test drive.
Same as mine - UK MY97, just a few more miles (55K), different exhaust, K&N (like mine) poxy atm dumpvalve, pair of shelves on the boot, but otherwise standard.
I could not believe how differently it drove. For starters the rubber on the steering wheel had detached from the internal frame. The brakes, bad as many agree made me forget how spongy they were orginally, I still hate mine, but they aren't anywhere near as bad as that. The gearchange, was extremely sloppy, loads of play, no positivity.
And the worst bit - the performance, this car was gutless, granted it had bit more off boost torque probably thanks to the backbox, but once on to boost there was nothing. I had suspicions it was a sick engine so I didn't want to thrape it and give the owner the pleasure of offloading the cost of his imminent failing big ends, or melted piston. It was idling crap, but I couldn't say it was the MAF sensor because the atomospheric dump valve was messing it up.
Jumped back into mine for a reality check and sure as hell, same MY97, shed loads faster (on 95 RON ) solid precise gearchange, and less squidgy brakes
Only positive comments of the turd I drove was less tyre/road noise and that for some strange reason it had heavier steering -tyres must have been flat or low PAS fluid or something
This got me wondering, how many people are out there driving their scoob thinking it's the dogs danglies, when in fact it is a pile of crap when compared to a good example equilvelant model - Simply due to way it's been treated, driven and maintained?
