I am going to replace the centre sections on my 01 wrx with hayward & scott items, should i be trying to refit the heat shields or junk them?

Why would you need to take the heatsheild off to swap the centre section?
Having said that - i'm not familiar with the underside of an MY01
However, i'm sure the heatshield was put on in the first place for a reason

If its the same set up as the MY03 the heat shield is protecting the intercooler so mod it if required to get it back on, but dont remove it

The heat sheilds surround the original centre pipes and are not fixed to the underside of the car sorry should have said this.

It should not cause a problem on the aftermarket stuff. The shield on the headers and turbo are needed though.
