£275 for a full engine service inc cam belt from sub city
I have been looking round to see how cheap I can get my cam belt service done. Sub city who advertise in the yorkshire Auto Trader do a full engine service for £275 includes timing belt, plugs, air filter, oil filter and all labour sounds cheap to me has anyone used them before???

theres no way they can do the timing belt as well as teh full service for that price, ive been told the Timing belt is about £80 trade price and takes a good few hours to install.
Cheap is not always best

Have to say that, assuming the list of parts also includes a quality engine oil, new coolant and so-on, £275 does sound extremely cheap for a job of this sort.
I'd be wanting to know a little more about exactly what this firm's experience and competency is before trusting them to do the job right. Finding out whether they're aware of the correct way to retension the cambelt tensioner, or whether they're aware of the best way to change the oil would be a good start.
While there's no point paying more than necessary, it certainly is true to say that paying peanuts does sometimes leave you in the hands of monkeys (and not the sort of monkey I'd be seen mixing with, if you see what I mean).

Sub city have been advertising in the trader for at least 3 years so they must have some experiance. The price was £250 when I first saw it but like i say it was at least 3 years ago. Some one must have used them in the past or they wouldn't still be in business. It's got to be worth a call to see if they do use genuine parts etc.
