Default Embarrased to own a scoob today :(

Well the first crap note in scoob ownership. Today was my turn to drive to the pub and my scoob needs a lot of TLC at the mo.

The contractor with us, when asked what he thought said it was crap and that id been ripped for what I paid. I actually at that moment felt embarrased to own my scoob.

Mind you he earns so much he cant spend it all and drives a brand new TVR

Does anybody else ever get the embarrased feeling ?

I bet the TVR spends more time off the road for repairs than the Scooby. Someone posted a thread the other day on here saying it cost 13K over 2 years to keep a TVR going. Perhaps when he is walking he'll be glad you have a reliable Scooby to give him a lift!

Stuey,

Before we bought our WRX Wagon we looked at a TVR Tamora (I know it's a different beast - but we very nearly bought one). In the end we decided not to becuase:

A) They are still questionable when it comes to reliability

B) The moment you tell TVR finance you want to do 12K miles a year for 3 years they say okay, but we only reckon your £37,500 TVR will be worth £10K in 3 years time.

Look on the bright side, his TVR will probably break down soon and then he won't think your scooby is crap when he begs a lift off you!!!!

If you were to get a lift in someone else's car (no matter what) and it was their pride and joy would you berate it. I would hope not. I would be embaresed to be the rude arsehole that told you your car was crap. if he think it's slow see if he can outrun you on foot.

Mate has a T350 and he says my scoob is slow but still says its a great car for me . There is always someone going to have a quicker car unless your name is Richard Noble.

Why is everyone deriding the cars when you should be deriding the car owner

Totally agree ...but the first thing people remember when they see a bad bit of driving is the car......and it's usually BMW's

Not yet. The contractor sounds like he's right up his own ****. How many of you does he drive to the pub in his TVR (if it makes it all the way there) Can't see it being 4, like you can in the scooby.

Hmmm... sorry... those figures are a bit out of date, I'm afraid. 0 to 60 was well slower than my STi8, 0 to 100 was the same - in both cases to avoid sucking the desert into the engines. After 80mph or so the car was on full reheat and were pulling around 2g. Fastest measured mile was 771mph and fastest peak speed was 772mph - both with a 6.5 mile run-up which took AFAIR about 45secs.

So was he saying that you got ripped of 'cos it needs TLC (and hence was a bad buy)or because it's a scoob. Big difference.

For 3.5K you can't get much scoob, but it's still a lot more perfromance than most other cars and with a bit of work you can get a cheap one like that sorted. 3.5k on any other car, except for a few exceptions, won't get you any where near your current performance potential.

My brother has got a tvr tuscan, (and has let me have a go ). It's an awesome machine, but you can't really compare it to a scoob imho. They are designed for entirely different uses. One is a two seater convertable supercar, (which is actually quicker than some Ferarris etc) and the other is a four seater performance car with rallying roots.

The tuscan is quicker than the scoob, stunning to look at, accelerates like a bat out of hell, and has an engine note to die for.

He's had it just over a year, and so far it has been more reliable that either of his other cars (he's also got an MG ZT and a MG ZS). In fact, it's not been off the road at all so far, and ignoring the servicing, it's been comparatively cheap to run.

The average service cost is very high, but seeing as this is a low production number, hand built, british sports car, (not mass produced like the scooby), you sort of expect that.

As far as build quality goes...it's got less rattles than my MY02 UK Sti !!!

I know several TVR owners, all who have good reliability from their cars. From what I hear, the main cause of problems is because owners do not treat the cars with the respect they need (letting the oil warm up before caning it, and letting it cool down again afterwards before switching off the engine for example).

Would I swap it for my scooby. No, because I need the practicallity of the scooby for day to day use. But if I could afford it, I'd have one as a second car any day.

Am I ever ashamed of owning a scooby....NO

Iain
