Default RB5, P1 or STi 8???

I finally managed to move my CTR onto it's new home and am now on the look out for a scoob, I've had a MY99 UK Turbo before, but I want something to put these both to shame

When I first started looking a few weeks ago I was thinking RB5 then P1 and last night STi8. Whatever I buy needs to stay with me for a good a while as I've changed my 'fun' car now 3 times in the last year and I'm getting stung every time

Insurance is much of a muchness between the RB5 and STi8 and another £400 per annum on the P1. Considering the RB5's start on the market at about £10,500, P1's about £16,000 and a STi 8 Type UK I've seen at a dealers for £18,500 what should I be doing?

I would love some form of warrenty and the STi and P1's I've seen all have more than 18 months reamining, but the longer the better

Let the battle commence! whats it going to be?

P1 for the ultimate "UK" classic, love the looks and its got ample power also. Much more raw than the STi 8 which is more refined, latest technology and got more doors!.

Some say the P1 looking dated now but really a matter of taste. If I had to choose my heart would say P1 but my head STi 8, mind the STi 8 has to come with PPP.

RB5 with PPP - IMHO not quite got the edge when compared with these two.

And this is coming from an RB5 owner for the last 3 years!

The RB5 is too close to your previous MY99. The P1 is fantastic, but is still a tin can compared to an MY03 (i own an MY99 BTW) I had a Blobeye GX while mine was in for a service and loved the solid rattle free feel compared to mine.
It's still a tough choice but as you plan to keep it for a while i personally would opt for the 8

Having owned both RB5 and STi8, I would have told you to go for the RB5 yesterday, but I just fitted 18" P-WRC1 wheels this morning and what a difference! Get an STi8 with front strutt brace and 18" wheels!

Had the P1 & STi8 PPP, and to be very honest i prefered the P1.

IMHO the P1 drove better and felt quicker and only had S/Sport back box fitted and
definately got more looks.

IF i were going for a performance car now i'd go Evo VI Mak Edition BUT thats me

If you can cope with 2 doors, P1 for sure.

Alternatively, give me a shout and I'll take you for a spin in my Skyline to add an extra level of choices !! (it's for sale by the way - c500bhp for under 20k )

If I had the cash it'd be spent on a P1 for sure. They're one of the best looking Scoobs ever made, and are already a classic, with the added bonus that they are unlikely to depreciate much more now.

The problem with the newer Imprezas (IMO) is that the special editions don't stand out from the normal ones, as much as the old shape equivalents.

RB5 is good but I'm sure a P1 is better. (RB5 owner).

Gotta be the P1, but hey I'm biased!

I have 2 years left on the warrenty on my car, there are plenty out there with the original warrenty and hence able to extend it for another 2 years! De-tangoing the front of the car makes it look a lot more modern, I think it looks stunning, the amount of head turns and finger pointing it gets is unbeleivable.

I haven't driven either of the other two but I have sat in a STi8, obvioulsy the interior was more up to date, however I didn't think the seats were as supportive, I may be wrong!

Where about are you based?

Used to have a P1 .... now moved onto MY03 STi with PPP.

Before adding the PPP and a few handling mods to the STi the P1 felt quicker and cornered better. Now there is really no comparison ... the STi wins hands down.

At the end of the day and presuming saving money isnt the main objective the only advise you should be given is to take both out for a 'spirited drive', then make a decision.

Personally I prefer the look of my STi to the P1 ... also seem to get alot more looks than I used to.

Tough choice. I`ve been down this route myself & did the sensible thing - kept my (lightly modded) MY00.

Having driven all.. I`d go with a P1.

I moved up from a CTR too (that was a great car by the way).

I now own a P1 and love it to bits... I would not swap it for an STI8 PPP but that's down to my own personal preference..

You need to drive them all before you can make up your own mind.

Have fun looking though....

Exclamation Tried them all.........

Owned an RB5 WR Sport from new for 4.5 years, during which time I test drove a P1 and saw absolutely no reason to part with any money, never liked the look of it at all, and aside from the ride feeling a little less harsh than the RB5 - saw no benefits of owning one - quite the reverse in-fact, all down to personal choice of course.

Now have an MY03 STi with PPP and the Prodrive wheels/tyre/spring package which is growing on me by the day - I may have to investigate the front strut brace mod judging by the posts on here for ultimate handling!
