Going to look at an 03 Impreza today. Advice please
Got a 2.0GX last year and my old man says its the best family car we've ever had and i have to agree it is. So ive convinced him onto a WRX for more poke (he enjoys scaring me by lingering when overtaking (and its the cars fault)) .
moff to look (at montys of sheffield) at an 03 WRX (MG03 WRX if you know it) and was wondering what to look for. done 6k miles and they want £17995.
ADIVCE PLEASE.
what to check/ look for/ listen for.
cheers!

The only thing I would say is that it is possible to source brand new UK WRXs for a little over 18K - so the price seems high to me. An 03 car is a year old, so I would certainly look to negotiate on that price. Mileage wise - 6K is just starting to loosen up the engine, which is no bad thing. I can't think there would be too much wrong with a car like this. It is certainly worth checking the tyres for signs of uneven wear, suggesting that the tracking / alignment is out (quite common). If the car is anything less than immaculate and they won't drop the price, my advice would be to walk away.
Chris
Edit to include - stuff the plate, you are buying the car not the plate - they can reregister it for all you care (good bargining chip...)

Agree,
bit on the pricey side. you can get a brand spanker for 18.5k.
Just make sure its not an import (cyprus or non EU) and check that it has all the usual warranty stuff.
Ask how it was run in and find out whether it has been looked after - warmed up/warmed down etc.

i think a grand drop is fair. Ive researched this quite a bit. we'll get £9k for the GX which is good. Theres one at Goldens for £20k with 500mile on clock but seems pricey.

When I had my service at the Stoke-on-trent dealers last week they had quite a few of the new shape cars for sale.
It might be worth calling them to get some specs and prices to use as ammo to get the price down. You can get the number off of the subaru UK website.

I paid £16.3k for my 03 WRX with PPP and Tracker with 20k on it. From a car dealer, but not a Subaru delaer. I saw an 03 STi on Autotrader this morning for £19k with 17k on here
Although low mileage, I think £18k is a bit much. You could probably get one similar for around £16-17k, or a PPP'd one like mine with more mileage.

I just sold my 03 STi, lowered on Eibachs, wrx spoiler, 6k miles on the clock, cat 1 alarm & tracker for £19k.
Seems pricey for a WRX to me. Some dealers sell them new for as little as £16K.

you will always get an inflated price from a dealer because they have to make a profit like the rest of us and for that profit you should get good service and peace of mind, i myself use montys in sheffield and have to say so far they have been fantastic , and apart from small niggle of losing my windscreen wiper wind blades which i still havent got , they have been really really good so if you did buy car from them i can vouch for a good aftersales - ps look forward to seeing you around - i am from sheffield and have a silver sti PPP 03 - awesome stuff

Have you seen that stickered Blue STi with TWO Vortex about?!
looks a bit silly. saw it when going to montys.
Not from sheffield myself, Doncaaster, but always in sheffield on business. Loads of scoobys in sheffield, only see a bout 1 a day here. Its like scooby heaven there.

oph, and the one at montys £17995. has a few minor scratches (should T cut out), lots of braking (lots of dust on alloys), and tyre wear is even. its has taken some servere cornering ( tyre worn at edges), but even non the less
