Default Advice needed on 2001 WRX Purchase Please

Hi all. I have a 206 Grand Turisme Ltd Edition & about 5K to spend. I have found a 2001 Imported WRX in Silver for 13K & the guy is willing to give me 8K for my Pug, does anyone think this is a good deal? the car comes with a warranty & he deals only in Imports. I am slightly worried because when we went for a test drive, he put standard unleaded in the car, I questioned this & he said it was fine! he is in Japan all the time & he has checked that it is ok to run on standard uk Unleaded. also I didnt think the car was very quick at all (I am used to STi V3 so that may be why?) Any advice? The car was Sweet! very quiet & mint condition & only done 16K. Is this a good price??

Any help greatly appreciated!

From what i have read on here you are correct to question him putting unleaded in, I think it should be optimax and octane booster unless it has been remapped for uk fuel. Also 13k might be a little expensive for a jap import check out the insurance yo may pay a fair bit more.

Unless the car has been remapped for UK fuel - he is talking out of his backside. This is always the problem - you don't know what the previous owner has been putting in the tank. Jap cars are setup for 100 RON fuel, as far as I know, this hasn't changed for the newer models. Optimax / SUL and octane booster are what most people seem to use. £13K is steep as well.

Chris is spot on, unless he has receipts and paperwork for the remap by someone in the uk to uk fuel, then i would walk away, buyers market, dont buy an import that the owner tells u it only needs to run on 95 ron fuel and hasnt been remapped, its bull****

Thanx for the replies so far ;-) The car was imported by him as he is a trader, so he hasnt been running it in this country. Also you say that 13K is too steep, I cant find Another car like this anywhere! I have searched scoobynet, AutoTrader & Exchange & Mart, can anyone give me an example?

I paid £9600 for my 2002 WRX Wagon Import. Imported new but done 37K (mainly motorway commuting to/from work).

Got some nice additions to like Projector Headlamps & exterior trim.
Not mint, but nothing too serious.

That was a private sale, and cheap, but 13K sounds expensive.

well... this car is MINT with only 16K on the clock, not a mark on it. also I have noticed that wagons are cheaper that saloons, but I also havent got the luxery of buying private, as I need to p/x my 206. maybe the car should be about 12K, but my pug is really only worth 7, so I am still getting it for 12K really

i would say it sounds about right to be honest for a 51 plate ish car? i sold my uk wrx on 51 plate about 5 months ago for 13k also it was a little cheap cos had alot of extras. So 13k doesnt sound to bad, but thats only what i think cos havent been lookin in this market for a while.

if oyu are not buying to sell, then buy the car that makes u feel happy
