Upto 500 miles i didnt go above 3500rpm, then i gradually took it up a little until i got to 997 miles, got it serviced & then it was bye bye bank account with all the optimax i am & have used !!!!!!
Its hard but for the 1st 1000 take your time & it'll be well worth the wait

Me too, only I have still got another 200 or so to go for the 1000. Just beginning to open it up a bit (3000 rpm for around 500 miles, now up to 4000 on a warm engine, now and then 4500 when I want to scare myself. Can't image what it will go like when I don't change gear every two seconds....
How long did the 1000 mile service take, any problems?
Cheers

Run in for the first 1k (keep under 4krpm) oil change, run in for a further 500miles, in this time, slowly increase the revs until at 1500 (approx) miles you have reached 7k, should be fine from then on in

I did think about this but with a turbo, erm I dunno . Running 'ordinary' oil through the turbo sounds like a bad idea, even for a small mileage. Can you get high temperature 'mineral oil' that won't break down in the turbo?
As well as the engine, you also have to think about the transmission, brakes etc. WOTing it would be fine so long as one didn't burn up the clutch and brakes doing 0-100-0s or similar.

The main thing to remember is let the engine warm up fully, even when the water temp guage shows up to temp the oil wont be any where near up to temp, will take about twice as long as the water.

i have a mate who thrashed his NEW WRX from 0 miles and its settled down at 265 BHP on the rollers.
So long as you dont red line all the time the days of running are over.
Billy the kid is spot on regarding warming up first though.
Go for Gold, i am in the WR-1 dont want a slow one

Well not quite true Brian, your not just running the engine in, you have all the diffs, gearbox and other moving parts to consider also.
Saying that, i ran my Spec C in carefully, that put out 343.5lbs of torque on the rolling road, not bad for a standard car thats only suppose to push out 290lbs

with my STI8 I was given a run in advice piece of paper, mine was slightly different, as it was an ex demo car, and apparently they put in a different kind of oil for these, as well as running them in for longer at the factory, as far as I know. Anyway when I was test driving the dealer asked me to keep it below 5000 revs, and then when I brought the car with only 197 miles on the clock, I kept it below 4000 revs until the 1000 mike service. Have had no problems with it at all. Wouldn't follow the counter argument about thrashing it as its under warranty, as you never know what kind of long term damage you could be doing to the car, which could blow the engine just after warranty has ended, and you won't be smiling then. Wait for the first 1000 miles they will soon pass, and its a good way to get use to the car, by taking it gently. Trust me the wait will be worth it, when you get it back from the 1000 mile service and you take it up to near the redline for the first time, you won't be able to get the smile off your face.

Was careful to keep below 4K until 500 miles, which allowed about 100mph in 5th when the conditions allowed (new WRX). Very, very difficult to achieve in 1st & 2nd if you don't have a feather for a right foot. After 500 let the revs get a bit higher - up to 6K in occasional bursts. Had 1K oil change on Wednesday, and it cost nothing. The new free parts and servicing as of cars registered from April 1st just caught my car .

Take the next 500 miles after the service pretty gentle, you will have new oil in and the fact that your car will be dog slow will just depress you
Slowly take the car up the rev range after the 1k service until you eventually reach the red line (but not in one go, ie for 100 miles after the 1k service dont go above 4.5, then 5 after another 100 miles and so on).
Your car will be happy and so will you
