Angry Bumped in to an old mate today

haven`t seen him for a while. Loves Minis, just sold his 16v 2000cc 5speed Vauxhall engined Clubman (which he built himself and goes like stink)and now running an Elise. Told him I`m getting an Impreza in a few weeks time and what did he think of them, (knowing he`s had 5turbos,1.9gti`s etc, etc). Got this reply......"Nah mate, Fanny cars. every ***** got `em. All you see is **** flyin` round in `em."
Looks like I`m going to be a `****/***` `flying` round in a `fanny car` very shortly. Hope I pull up next to him at the traffic lights in his upside-down fishpond.
Anyone else get this kind of atitude from friends/workmates(strangers)? and shall I expect this on a regular basis?

My Doreens sister in law knows nothing about cars. Infact, if you gave her a set of car keys, she'd try and open a tin of beans with them!!
But for her to turn round and say that she knows that a scooby is one of the fasest cars on the road shows how much of an image they have.
It Mr fiberglass has a total disregard for scoobys its because he knows that his hot wheels trolly is no match for it, in the wet or on the bends!!

Now i feel better!!

but so what - it's a great car and when you are in it 'flying around' believe me you won't care about the image too much

Spot on. I definately aren`t getting one for the image and not really bothered what people think anyway. It`s just a shame to have a certain genre of car and have people judge you without even knowing you. Strange thing is, the wagon doesn`t seem to get quite the same knocks from people yet it`s the same car with a bit more space! Go figure.

So your mate's a car-snob... who cares. What matters is whether you like the car or not.

Bonkers.

Before I bought mine I had a queue of people in my office with various other suggestions aimed at dissuading me from buying THAT one. I work for a major auto supplier in which everyone should know what that car can do but no one supported me. They told me it was a lad's type of car, pig ugly and some sent me the Jeremy Clark quote that both the evo and scooby are like two ugly sisters - great under the cover but you don't want to be seen with them.
AFTER I bought it, it earned me a lot of respect (not that I needed it). Now they know that I know that their advice was misplaced. In the purschasing decision you learn who your friends are!
