Unhappy Type R bottom end

A friend of mine has a 97 sti , the bottom end has gone on the engine, as i've never had any engine problems before i dont know where he may find a good/reasonably priced engine. Local to Yorkshire. Can anyone help ? cheers sam

Sorry to hear that mate, Mine went a few weeks ago and has just been picked up and taken to GDA Imports yesterday. They do a new bottom end for £1500 and £500 to fit, but they are in essex. API Engines is in Warwickshire if thats close enough.

Its a gutting feeling when it happens.

I have a used STi V7 short motor (block, pistons, rods and crank) all fully assembled and its done under 10,000 km. Its yours for £1400 ono

sounds expensive to me.

I bought a complete sti 3 lump for £1500 including heads.

Speak to gradeasubaru or midland impreza as that sounds like too much for a short block.

You could have a new sti 2.5 shortblock from lateral performance for £1200 or so, which is far less and far better! (semi closed deck block and hypereutectic pistons as well as being bigger capacity)

Try Grade A Subaru or you could try Powerstation, you should be able to get a Sti 9 bottom end for around £900.
