Nipped at the lights
Had a run in with a Jag XJR at some traffic lights today. There wasn't much in it but as my lane vanished I had to give in and tuck in behind.
Surely a standard scoob turbo should be quicker than one of those barges? I didn't hold it at 5000 rpm and drop the clutch so maybe that would have given me a better start?
Adam
MY00 standard apart from exhaust centre & BB.

First of all he's probably in an auto which means he just floors it and lets rip. Secondly despite being heavy they are also pretty quick. From the sounds of it you didn't make a good enough start, as you know there is really very little in it at the kind of speeds you are talking about. I find 3K revs and progressive feed of the clutch give good results without destroying the clutch. Good enough to do in a 147GTA at any rate.
Moral of the story, if you are going to indulge in the traffic light GP make sure you get a good start and don't underestimate the opposition.

I think it was a '98 Jag so it wasn't one of the new light weight ones. Next time I'll put more effort in! In the meantime to make the odds more favourable I'll refit my downpipe (noisy on the motorway but it did make a noticeable difference).

Unless of course it was wet and/or you have a modified car.
Still think an auto box is agreat advantage though, no fluffed changes to screw up your getaway.

The Jag figures you've quoted seem to be for the XKR Nick, which is the two door coupé. The XJR saloon is a little heaver, but it'd still have a fair power to weight advantage over a standard UK classic shape Turbo...
