Default Uk Wagon Owners....A Question

I recently bought a totally standard UK 5 door turbo, its got around 100k on the clock but its been serviced every 6 months.

Now, a couple of months back I sold my fully decatted and scoobyECU'd version 1 STi to a friend of mine. The other day he followed me, him in my old STi and me in my UK wagon, obviously I booted it because thats what men do(makes ***** appear larger or something), he was in my mirror all the time but not actually catching me, it seemed quite a level race, he also said today that he was JUST keeping up.

I believe the figures for my UK car is around 215bhp, and my old car(STi) has got to be pushing around(and at least)290-300 bhp.

So my question is this - how the hell can my car be the same speed as the STI? It certainly feels fast, as did the STi, the UK one is smoother when the turbo kicks in as opposed to the neck break you get in the STi.

I avoided UK models when I was after my first scooby as they are meant to be turd. I am so glad I have tried and bought one now.

Do you other UK wagon owners think that your car is way over the stated BHP?

Answers on a postcard or you can even post here.

daft reply!

obvious factors apply..driver..conditions..luck,,
race all sorts of scoobs in my lightly modded wagon and never disgrace myself, there is so little between any scoob especially on the go,that mods and power count for little in the real world on normal roads in normal conditions..BESIDES WAGONS RULE!! IMHO!

Just read up about what peeps said about my wagon at the last meet i went to, oh and i shut up quite a few of the JDM owners too

clicky
edited to say it cost me 650 quid to mod and has as much power as a JDM sti, saved that in my first years insurance premium wagons rule

I bought my uk standard wagon about 18 months ago from a subaru dealer with FSSH.
I replaced the backbox, centre section and air filter over the next year( plus a few non performance mods ).
Last october i took it to powerstation for a rolling road, result .....238bhp
People with ppp were getting less than me!

In january this year i took the car to power engineering for a re-map.
Guess what...... my car had been super-chipped.
This was removed.

My point is that i thought my car was bog standard when i bought it.

Are you sure your car is standard

Question ..

hi peeps,

sorry to hi-jack but this looks like a good wagons get together

i own a MY98 UK Wagon (wagons rule ) and i would like to know the best way to modify for max power gains at a not so expensive cost....so come on peeps give me the most beefy mods that u all know about!!

the only thing i have so far is a big shiny backbox with the rear cat removed and yes m wagon is very f***ing fast!! apart from when i had a wee toy with an Audi RS6 wagon OMG the are scarey motherf***ing cars!!!

keep the wagons at the top!!

wagons are great, I love mine.

I've driven a my02 ukSTI and apart from the hard suspension and the 6 speed box, performance wise, it didn't feel like it was much quicker (mine's a my99)

wouldn't mind getting the STI rear spoiler though, makes the wagon look a bit slicker imho.

only sort of performance mod i have is a vortex backbox, decat centre will be next.

...........keep them wagons rolin!

What year is the wagon, remember that pre 99 cars had 208bhp, pre 97 cars had a bigger turbo.
As for the difference between the classic and new age STi, the delivery in power is less agressive so it will feel slower in the STi where as in actual fact, its probably quite a bit quicker (as a mate of mine pointed out in my STi, he said it feels like we are doing 60mph) i was actually doing considerably more than that.

Dont think its just uk wagons, i bought a uk saloon, and added a quickshift, dump valve and a HKS super dragger system, and i thought i would take it to santa pod raceway to see what quater mile times i would get. On my 1st race i went against a 300bhp celica and beat it, my 2nd race i went against a standard scooby P1, and he only just beat me his time was 13.5sec and my time was 13.6, i thought i did pretty well for a more then standard uk car, and i will be back at santa pod on April 25th, just added a decat downpipe, airfilter, and uprated clutch, love to see a few wagons there, dont think i saw one there last time.

Scoobyboy, get yourself a knocklink also, with the increase in boost you will get from the downpipe you may get det higher up the rev range on WOT, cheap and shows you whats happening (www.jap-innovations.co.uk do these).
Also, year dependant, airfilters are not advisable (MY99 onwards) due to a sensitive MAF sensor, pre 99 cars are ok though as they have a different type of MAF sensor

When i said airfilter i mean it was a K&N panel filter, as i have heard about the induction kits messing with the MAF sensor as i have a MY00 ive learned all this from scoobynet, as before i buy anything i check on scoobynet 1st, as with the knocklink, hopefully thats next on the list, should be getting one in the next couple weeks along with some gauges.

Have a look here www.scoobymania.co.uk
These people do the official STI panel filter (not the ones in the cars but ones that STI do themselves so recommended for use )
Not the cheapest at around 50 quid but probably the best you will get

The mods are as follows:

HKS super drager turbo back de cat (£350 second hand)

HKS EVC V boost controller (£200 second hand)

K&N 57i induction kit (£57 new)

so £607 well spend in my opinion

Took my car, MY98 UK wagon, up to Well Lane a couple of weeks ago and was well chuffed as it was pulling 242bhp and he had it up to 150mph in 4th at 6800rpm.
He told me the car was running really well and very healthy.

Not bad with only a Piper backbox, de-cat centre, modded airbox and VTA Bailey dumpvalve.
Went for a little spin with some mates last weekend and kept up with all of them pretty easily as well, 2 STI8's and a very modded classic running 17psi.
They couldn't seem to pull away from me so was once again well chuffed.

So once again we have another very impressed with their car wagon owner.

Dave

P.S. Has anyone got any idea what difference an STI7 intercooler will make, got all the bits to make it fit just got to do it.

someone in a black import tried to leave me at the lights tonight.....ha!...left him standing.

pulled up at a petrol station(surprisingly comon these days??) and he follwed me in.

he was a bit upset coz..he'd had it rolling roaded at 283bhp..and he thought his was maybe running wrong....?
"what you done to her?" he said..
not much....shes a uk my96 wagon (ran 260 at well lane with cat in!)
done a few mods since though so he didnt feel to bad after the chat.

Wagons Rule

q-car factor as you look at their faces in the mirror
(and then their cars get smaller)

and you can put

chairs
wardrobes
a bike
long lengths of wood
and enough suitcases when the misses goes on holiday

and mine is Bl**dy quick too !!

There's no wind resistance on a rolling road. Unless the expected wind resistance is built into the rolling road program Which I doubt.
