Insurance for mods
Hi All,
I have a standard 2003 WRX insured via tesco. I just calle them to find out how my premium would be affected if i put an STi spoiler on the back. Canyou believe that they wanted £150 extra?
Has anyone else had experience of this kind of madness?
Cheers
Chris

blimey!
I knew that some insurers put up premiums for PPP or other power mods, but for cosmetic stuff like that, its just silly.
I was thinking of putting an STI type square spoiler on my WRX, and maybe either PPP or a new backbox, but if my insurance is going to go up 2-300 quid I won't bother!

Has anyone else fund tesco to be more reasonable and if so, how did they convince them to play fair?

Jippo's?
Probably hiked up premiums due to all the jippo's keep nicking them causing damage plus cost of replacemnt. Try Liverpool Victoria if you are over 30. Ring them as their on line system will not accept mods. Mods that do not affect cc of engine are accepted FOC

Priviledge Insurance allows mods to the car for a small premium (can't remember exactly how much but was peanuts, few quid like) so long as it doesn't increase/effect engine performance. Cosmetic changes they called them when I took my insurance out. I have my MY98 insured with declared mods worth no more than £5000 (it goes in bands). My insurance is £630 full comp protected NCD but then I'm an very young feeling though old looking 38 years of age

Hope they can compete with direct line. Good quote from them.

My certificate came though and was also covered for "business use" which is very handy as their are two sites to my place of work. I think however I read recently that their quotes are not as competative, may be wrong. But I think you do have to be over 30 years old.

Some insurance companies say that even cosmetic changes make your car more desirable as a theft target.
I'm sure you can all see the scenario now, two thieves one day happen to find two identical scoobies parked beside each other, one is standard one is standard apart from the wing. The two thieves will decide "ooh that one's got a wing I'm going to nick that rather than the other one".
Yes it could happen, oh yes it could, don't doubt it. And that's why it costs £150 more on your insurance.
