I have a kenwood DPX440 in the Impreza, and a Kenword 759R in my wee Civic. Only had to slow down the burn speed a bit, that seemed to help with skipping early on. Never had a problem since. Try CD lens cleaner as well - might help.

The only skips now are caused by my ropey driving

Hi M8, Kenwoods are not too fussy as a rule, but found that Unbranded disks skip alot (also in my Pioneer DVD), switched to Memorex & never had a problem since (even burning at 54X)

Good Luck

My kenwood was fine but after about 3 years of constant use it started to fail and ended up skipping and giving h/f clicking noises and dust 'n' scratches type noises on them. It actually depended on the writter that I used too, didn't mater about what discs were used though.

end result was that i just gave in and finally upgraded my head unit

Many car cd players (especially autochangers) have problems with the modern high speed CD-R discs, especially those players that are more than a couple of years old. This is due to the dye used in the modern CD-R discs, whilst the discs work faster in computer's (52x recording is the norm these days) they are not so compatible with autochangers or slot in players.

The best thing though would be to try to get hold of the older style Cynanine based discs. These normally have a dark blue recording surface.

The other thing to try is CD-RW discs. These are made from Cyanine dye and often work when CD-R doesn't.

Once you find a disc that works stick with it

Good luck!
