New guy here : )
Hi people
Been looking on here for quite a while now but after deciding to actually buy a scooby i thought i'd better get some answers to a couple of questions..
I only know one person off here 16vmarc and he has helped me no end but i need advise on WRX's mainly and people who have them.
Now the situation is i have about 8K to spend.Origionally i wanted a UK spec turbo with FSH and a tracker fitted preferably in silver/black or blue but finding one is another story There is an N reg Colin Mc Rae special edition in a garage near me in chester going for 8k but to my knoledge is dosn't have a tracker which i need for the insurance AND it will coast an extra £300 to insure than a standard one!! Eh!!??
The this got me thinking about a WRX as there are LOADSSSSS i can choose from in all colours with the right SH and it will cost me £300 extra insurance over a UK model.
So seeing as as there isn't much difference in insurance(and there faster!) i was thinking of the WRX but as we all know they are totally different to UK spec ones meaning more insurance/parts/fuel..
So i need the low down on WRX's basically..Here are my questions..
1.How much extra is the servicing from a Subaru garage or any decent garage?
2.I know i have to use optimax but do you have to add octane booster every time i fill up or just every other tank full?
3.Are the parts that much harder to get hold of and cost much more??
Thanks for taking the time to read this and any help is appreciated
Alan

Hello, i drive a MY99 WRX and have done with no problems for 18 months (touch wood) Anwsers to your questions
1) You shouldn't pay any more for servicing, basic oil service around £90 + Vat
2) i use Octane booster everytime i fill up, didn't for 1st 6 months or so as didn't know about it.
3) Not too sure here as never had real problem with the car, however, there are specialist who can help.

hello and welcome.
I have a wrx and have had a uk turbo and another wrx in the past.
1 Servicing is the same price
2 I use optimax and only use octain booster for meets and shows etc (or whenever i am driving the car a bit harder)
3 Parts are easy to get hold of if you know the right people.
some parts are a little more pricey eg o2 sensor but most parts are the same as the uk model.
I can get hold of any parts for Import Subarus if you need to get hold of them.

I'm guessing you are talking about a car without an offcial Subaru Warrenty?
I have tended to diy where poss or a friendly mechanic mate to help out
I run a 95 import WRX, I used to run it on Optimax and an octane booster but haven't done so for the last 6 months and tbh I havent really noticed much difference if any, but then I was using one of the cheaper octane boosters, may have been more noticable if I had been using NF octane booster
Never had trouble getting parts, there are so many 3rd party dealers about who can supply parts or there are a fair few scooby breakers around too.
When it comes to dealers parts then I think all you need is a UK chassis no to order the part against.
On the whole I dont think its too much hassel owning an import rather than a uk model regarding parts and servicing.
Hope someone else can give a better answer than this
Like the kid in the old AA advert, "Dad, I'm not helping much am I?"

Welcome.
I don't have a WRX and I don't know about the octane booster or the difference or
availability of parts but if I was buying an import I would find a good independent garage for servicing or repair. I would have thought that for £8k you could pick up a very good U.K. car. Have you considered a wagon? They're great and really practical as well as normally being cheaper than the saloon.
Good luck with your search.

As for
1. Some Subaru dealer's won't service imports, some will. They appear to be more flexible if you don't make a song and dance about it ...
And you might want to edit your postcode out of the autotrader link
