Radar detector question
Just bought a bell 550 from a nice chap on here and the missis used it today to go to wales.......When coming up to speed cameras which detect speed after you have passed them the detector didn't do anything till the car was dead level with the camera ( in line of site of the beam i pressume) and then it went ballistic. That gave her about 0.0001 seconds to slow down before going over the lines on the road and getting flashed. Is this the way this detector works, therefore making it only really usefull with front facing cameras which catch you coming towards them?
What other style of money steeling equipment will this model detect?

A radar detector can only detect the beam...so unless it bounces off the car in front then you won't detect it until you are level or past it.
(Unless you are talking about detecting sidelobes, but civilian radar detectors aren't sensitive enough to detect the sidelobes - which in a civilian radar gun are extremely low level and probably don't transmit backwards through the metal box)

I've used a Bell 550 for a couple of years and it has always detected Gatsos from the rear at between 100 and 200m ( if they are switched on). The warning is the lower distance when no cars are in front to bounce the radar back. It may depend on how its mounted, mine is stuck to the windscreen just above the dash. Remember if you have it set on "city all" the verbal warning will only sound when the level gets up to about 5 which probably won't happen until you are level with the camera if approaching from the rear but the beeping will start from the first detection at level 1. If you want the verbal warning earlier you need to set it to "motorway" but it is usually too annoying due to false detections. Hope this is some help.
