Have you tried them both??

Think you will probably get a very biased opinion here...

evo too mate

(scooby owner)

but have a blast in both, try a 99/00 sti & an evo 6, same sort of money, and decide yourself, what ever YOU prefer to drive tbh.

Take your time though try at least a few example of both cars

Well, My biased opinion would be the P1.

Fantastic car which maybe one day I may be able to afford. I also expect that the running costs might be a bit lower for the P1 as it has a longer service interval - all this being relative of course as no car of this type is "cheap" to run

I would think that the P1 is a little less common ? and more visually distinctive, being as there are only 1000 of them. I suspect there are somewhat more EVO's about but I'm sure someone will be along shortly with the statistics

Thanks for your replies. To be honest, I have only driven the P1 which was
absolutely superb. I'm waiting for the EVO to be inspected before I drive it (it's an import with a few mods!). Prefer the look of the EVO but they are very close in my book. P1 (2001 Y) is £ 20k and the EVO (1999 T) £ 16k.

If so, save yourself 6K and buy a V5 or 6 Type R!

I was in exactly the same situation as you about 3 months ago. Couldnt decide between an Evo 7 or a P1. To be honest I was swaying towards the Evo.

Took both the cars out and they felt very similar - Acceleration that could rip your head off and cornered like they were glued. I did get the vibe though that the Evo would be a faster car in the hands of a good driver, whereas the P1 was fast in an average drivers hands (ie, mine) 1-0 to the P1.

Then I sorted the insurance (25, 4 years NCD, Manchester), cos the Evo was an import the cheapest I could find the insurance for was £4400, there was no way I was paying that. So I got a quote with the same company (Tescos) for the P1 and it was less that £2000. When I asked why there was such a big difference they just said one word "import" 2-0 to the P1!

Then the price, The Evo was an 01 import, 1 UK owner, 29k miles for £18,500 and the P1 was an 01 UK car, 1 owner, FSSH, 20k miles, extended warranty for £18,000......no contest 3-0 to the P1!

Now Ive owned the P1 for a while Im well happy with it, its rare, looks good, turns loads of heads, its fast, handles well and all the evos that Ive had a play with its been pretty much neck and neck. I did try and find a UK evo aswell but they are really rare and cos of this they are £20k+. To be honest I do still really like the Evo and in my situation I was more or less forced into my choice, but you wont be disappointed with the P1 and from what I gather the P1 is a bit more reliable too!

Cheers
Stu

The P1 has some history with engine failures, i think there were a good 10 go on here (in the first 6 months ) but AFAIK the evo isnt prone to engine failures like the P1 was.

Yup the evo's are more expensive to service, the bigger services are more regular and a higher price to boot

Cant understand why I couldnt get a lower quote? I really did try everywhere! Dont know whether its my age or cos Im from Manchester but there was no way I could afford £4k+ a year!

Who did you get that quote off Carl? Whats your age/location/NCD? Im thinking about an Evo VIII FQ330 in the future, are there many UK cars about?

Cheers

Thats where I might have got mixed up with the reliability thing. What was probably said was they are both quite reliable but the Evo will cost a lot more if it does go bang. Does that sound about right? Cheers Tony.

Not much in it straight line performance wise but P1 more tuned to uk roads.

Sit in them both the P1 interior is much more to my liking, then start them up and the P1 has that typical scooby flat four sound and evo doesnt. Both good cars but tbh the only evo I liked was the 6.5 TME.

Evo engine parts are actually not very expensive to rebuild and in no way more expensive than the Scooby when it comes to that sort of thing.

Friend just had a rebuild done to his wrx after a garage forgot to put a rad hose back on after a sevice and the engine died.

For no where near the price its cost to have his engine done I could of had a Engine built for mine of a far superior spec.

I dont have to worry about the crap 4k mile evo sevice as I have a Evo 3
