Question too much oil

filled the car up with too much oil yesterday do i need to do anything or will it just burn off? maybe i should drain some .

You haevn't said what your car is, but it is not good having too much oil in any car to be honest. Suggest you try and get some out!

my 03 wrx think ive put about 1/2 litre too much in.

Seem to remember reading that too much oil can block a solanoid up somewhere ....bring on the experts

Yes best to drain it out otherwise it can contaminate the boost solenoid and cause overboosting. Oil level should be at the low mark on the dip stick when cold, the high mark when warm.

cheers many thanks, time to get my hands dirty draining it throught the bottom of the sump.

i wont be able to do this untill the weekend though is that a major problem????

Drain the excess immediately. I put to much oil in a small van I used to drive, I approached a hill and the oil spilt somewhere which caused the engine to rev out of control.

Smoke bellowed out of the engine and the van stopped once the head gasket had finally blown.

Was hard explaining that to my boss.
