normal operation?

normal operation?
my newly aquired my95 uk turbo is absolutely crap on fuel. struggling to get 190 miles out of a full tank, compared to my 220-260 out of my previous MY98 wagon.
this new 95 uk has full de-cat and smells quite strong of fuel on start up and tick over. is this due to the de-cat? it also has a VTA dump valve in place, but i have the standard one in the garage. do these add to fuel changes?
overall, the car feels slower and less reponsive than my 244 bhp wagon and I need to know if anyone has any ideas please. (the wagon had just backbox and induction kit)
regards, Cliff

The lambda sesnor would be a good place to start, the car uses this to fuel when under normal driving conditions. They do go, and when they do the ecu sees a lean air to fuel mixture, thus the ecufuels more than it should.
Aside from poor economy, you'll also find that at the lower rev range the car will feel under powered and quite lumpy, this should disappear at higher rev ranges when the car's on song.
You may also get popping from your exhaust when trundling along.

Zhastaph, cheers for that. I believe i can get a check done on the lambda sensor if memory serves me right. also, yes, a bit lumpy at low revs, but once going it feels ok. I imagined the amount of pops and bangs i get cruising was due to the decat and blitz back box.

If the car is poping and banging alot it could be the Dump valve. I had this when i changed to a blitz dump valve and the car became heavy on fuel and poped and banged even when cruising... changed back to standard and its all fine (i also have a full decat exhaust)
