abs always kicking in.

abs always kicking in.
i drive a MY01 sti(import)and my abs kicks in alot. if i am going about 20mph and i go over a grid or a manhole cover in the road the abs kicks in.if i am coming down from greater speeds(nothing silly just general driving)and there is a small bump in the road or anything like that the abs kicks in.i have been told it is because mine is an import and the set up of the suspension is alot harder than uk ones so when i go over the slightest bump or whatever the abs is kicking in doing it's job thinking the wheel is about to slip.all sensors are on correctly(don't know if one is faulty).
is anyone else having problems like this or is it just something you have to get used to with having an imported car or can you get things altered on the car to rectify this because at the moment i don't feel overly confident in my brakes especially coming down from speed.
please help and thanks to all who replies.

Ive an MY03 JDM STi (Spec C) and i dont have the above trouble
You have to remember that the ABS kicks in when it feels there is loss of traction, ie like braking over a cast iron manhole cover, your other problem could be the tyres you have fitted, what make are they?

the tyres on the car are bridgestone potenza's, still with loads of tread on.
it doesn't do it daily but when it does decide to do it, it just un-nerves you and tend to make you abit less confident. maybe it is part of the package cos the roads over here are a disgrace compared to the roads in japan where the car has been set up for.
