Default Scooby ECU cause car to fail emissions??

My 94 WRX has failed its mot on emissions, the speedo has broken putting the car into limp home mode which I'm guessing may have an effect on emissions, the machanics are telling me the alteration to the managment via adding a scooby ECU is causing it to fail and that limp mode wont make any difference. Don't really want to take the chip out, has anybody else had emission probs with a scooby ECU?

My car (MY96) passed its MOT and was well under the emissions limit. I have the before and after readings- it was actually a little lower with the scoobyecu in place.

more than likely dodgy lambda, either the sensor itself or the earthing of said unit. Scoobyecu makes no difference to emissions, as the ECU still aims for the same fuelling off load, and it's dictated by the lambda control.

You don't have to remove the chip to return to standard either, you can temporarilry rejoin the 'J1' link to restore factory programming.

Lambda earth, and earthing in general is a real issue, especially as the Lambda sensor doesn't have a dedicated ground wire, and relies on the earthing through the exhaust and engine.

Sandler- The Scooby ecu won't be the problem but the limp home mode will due to your speedo not working.

My g/f's speedo packed up and for the day it was out the car was running richer, you could smell fuel and it popped and banged like a good un on over-run, even limited to 4000 rpm.

Check your cable hasn't just popped out the back rather than be told it's broken and face replacement costs.

Exellent thanks guys, I was sure I'd never seen anybody complaining about probs with them, think it had a new lamda sensor for its last MOT, (know that doesn't mean it hasn't broken again) so earthing sounds like a good place to start!!!

That last post popped up as I was doing my last reply! Thats good then sounds like speedo it is!! The bottom half of the cable was busted, replaced that. flippin thing still doesn't work. An auto electrician put some tool on the back of the speedo to check it was working and he said it was. The inner of the top of the cable lloked ok, so I guess it just leaves the metal box thing half way down, hmmm..........
