Thumbs up

hi guys

i'm new here but i've been surfing this site for a year now and love here lots, lots of informations i needed

anyway, got few questions to ask, i'm 25 years old guy, been driving since 17, got 8 years NCB (no claim bonus), live on my own, got a high security back opened yard with electric gate with flood light. i've been researching to buy new subaru impreza WRX for a while, and finally i think i am ready to purchase WRX now.

few questions :

1)i've seen some very good price for brand new WRX at car hypermarkers for example www.motorpoint.co.uk for £16,699. but is it safe to buy it, what about the warranty?, will local subaru dealers refuse to servicing or reapiring the car under 3 years warranty?

2) insurance!!! i know!!! every insruance companies says the car MUST have tracker fitted which will cost more. i'm pretty sure there are some insurance companies will accept without tracker, any of you know any insurance companies, pls let me know, the cheapest qoute i had was with Tesco was £1,100 with tracker fitted but i feels i could get a better deal than Tesco.

3) how much do i expect to pay for services, could pls anyone kindly give me the list of price of each services, what is the internal service? every 9k or 12k?

4) does WRX need to running in first for 1,000 miles or not?

Many Thanks

Wesley

Drive a classic and a new age before you buy anything, then buy a classic......

Check out Liverpool Victoria - no tracker

Service prices - interims at 7.5k (cheapish) 45k and 90k mega money
http://www.xtremescoobies.co.uk list their prices - top outfit

Try the search function - saves a lot of time waiting for people to answer the same questions....

http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq - the answer to most of your questions

Lastly - DO IT! BUY ONE!

Hello!

I would do a search regarding motorpoint as there are few problems (warranty/security etc) with buying cypriot sourced cars.

Insurance tends to be quite hit and miss. Do lots of phoning!

Services are about £100 for a minor and a lot more (say £300-600) for a biggy. Depends if you need extras like pads etc.

Yes it will need running in for 1000 miles, although this will be hell

The motorpoint cars come from Cyprus. I think it is also a bit of a problem with insurance as its not a true parallel import.

Cyprus is not in the EU and therefore the cars are not covered by the 3 year EU wide warranty. IM (International Motors) and Subaru UK will not touch you for warranty work if you buy one of these. Motorpoint give 1 year and will sell you 3 years, but it's worthless on such a specialist car. There are also issues with undersealing, and the seats without airbags.

Go to a UK dealer armed with a quote from www.tins.co.uk which should be around £18.5k and start negotiating, although you won't get very much lower. Or look around (for sale section on here is good) for a hardly used example for around £15.5k to £17k with PPP, and let someone else suffer the initial depreciation.

You could always look at EU parrallel imports (Emporer/Litchfields/TSL) but the €/£ exchange rate has knocked the point out of these at the mo'. I was offered a new MY04 WRX for £18.3 at a main dealer recently, and called at Well Lane on the way home and saw sceen prices of £18.5 on MY03 imports

Happy shopping.

Agree with Corradoboy. The days of EU cars being better value are now over IMHO.

In 2001, I bought a MY01 for £18k c/w metallic paint when the same car would have cost nearly £22k from a UK dealer. Now the difference is more like £1000 and so not worth the hastle in my opinion.

By the way, if you do go EU, don't be fooled by people saying that they are worth less at trade in time. I think mine was valued by two garages as onyl £200 less than a UK car!

Welcome

Right, the first one is as per everyone elses answer, dont buy from motorpoint, its a 17k car, no alarm system and no real warranty protection, you can pick these cars up for 18k from a uk dealer new if you haggle them a little, you get a very comprehensive warranty and no hassle service

Insurance... Liverpool victoria but id still add a tracking system to your car, to be honest, anyone who doesnt is a bit silly nowerdays.

Services.
Well as my new scoob is a JDM car she doesnt have the same services as a uk car of the same age (ie new ) but what you will get is the first service at 1k, you only pay for parts, then 10k/1 year services, and going off past experiences, its probably a 100 quid type oil change on odd years, expensive service (300/400/500 depending on which service) on even years.
The recommendation to run super unleaded fuel or optimax is a must, these cars will run 95 ron fuel but you get greater benefits from a higher octane fuel, like smoother, better performance and better mpg.

Just so you know, the new model cars service intervals, are 10000 miles, not 7500 as they were, so any car 03 and on, is 10k not 7.5k

Neil.

P.S. Thats for a UK car, not import.
